UAlbany XC Women Regionally Ranked For Third Straight Week

NEW ORLEANS – For the third consecutive week, the University at Albany women’s cross country team finds itself ranked 15 in the Northeast Regional poll. The women broke into the rankings in their Week 2 installment on September 23, after an exemplary performance at Iona’s Br. Doyle Meet of Champions, where they finished in first place, defeating three other Northeast ranked teams.

The women competed this past weekend at Lehigh University’s Paul Short Invitational. Seeded in the Gold race, designated for the best teams in the field, the women placed 23rd out of 48 in the team standings. Among the women’s competitors were 29 regionally ranked teams from around the country including 8 from the Northeast. Of the 29, five hold spots in the national rankings. Despite finishing eighth out of nine Northeast teams in the race, UAlbany added a victory over a new opponent, New Hampshire, bringing their total on the season to five.


UAlbany junior Silvia Del Fava was the top finisher for the Danes on the weekend, finishing 10th overall in 20:40, which is the second fastest time at 6K in UAlbany history, behind teammate Brittney Lane’s 20:24 from Northeast Regional Championships last season.

The Northeast poll remained largely unchanged, except for Dartmouth who moved up to second place from seventh after their second place performance at Paul Short. Dartmouth senior Abbey D’Agostino placed first overall for the second consecutive year.

The women have two weeks before they split to compete at the Pre-National Invitational in Indiana and the UAlbany XC Invitational at their home course on October 19.
