Rowley paced UAlbany (18-8, 7-5 America East) with a stat-stuffing effort of 19 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Mike Black, after hitting his first three pointer, eclipsed the 1,400 career point mark at UAlbany. Black became just the twelfth played in Great Dane history to eclipse the mark.
The Great Danes got their first and only lead, 5-4, with 18:04 in the first half. After Rowley hit his layup, Black came back with a three-pointer to not only extend the lead but also record his 1,400th point at UAlbany.
However, the Black Bears came back with a 22-6 run to grab a 15-point lead, 26-11, with 6:55 left in the first half. Maine hit five of its first six three-pointers during the stretch.
Down 13 at the half, UAlbany charged back to begin the second half, going on a 14-7 run and cut the deficit to six, 40-34, with 11:57 remaining. Rowley scored five points during the stretch.
Maine (9-15, 4-7 America East) responded back with a 10-4 run to extend the lead to 12, 50-38, with 7:28 left in the contest. Justin Edwards paced the Black Bears with four points, including a breakaway dunk.
The Black Bears did not relinquish the lead
for the final seven minutes of the contest, holding the Great Danes to 14 points
the rest of the way.
For the contest, UAlbany shot 36 percent (20-56) from the floor and 29 percent (4-14) from behind the arc. The Great Danes outrebounded the Black Bears, 42-32. From the free-throw line, the Danes shot 80 percent (8-10) while Maine went to the line 24 times and made 15 for 63 percent.
