JORDAN MURRELL INVITED TO U-20 CAMP
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse sophomore back
Jordan Murrell (Markham, Ontario, Canada) has been named to Canada’s
23-man roster for its upcoming U-20 training camp in Mexico City that runs from
Feb. 11-16.
The training camp is a precursor to the 2013
CONCACAF U-20 Championship which begins on Feb. 18 in Puebla, Mexico. The top
four teams at the championship qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey
this June.
“We are delighted
for Jordan that he has the opportunity to once again represent Canada and
compete for a spot in the U-20 World Cup in Turkey,” said SU head coach Ian
McIntyre. “Whenever a player has the chance to play for their national team
it is a very special honor. Jordan continues to work hard at developing his game
here at Syracuse and we wish him all the best in Mexico.”
Murrell, a 2012
All-BIG EAST Third Team selection, was part of an Orange defense that posted 12
shutouts last fall. He was also the team’s highest scoring defender. Murrell led
Syracuse with seven assists and contributed two goals in 21 matches.
Prior to start of the tournament, Canada
must trim its roster to 20 players. The Canadians open the CONCACAF play with a
Group B match against Cuba on Feb. 18. All tournament matches will be streamed
live on CONCACAF.com. In addition, on-site coverage of
the CONCACAF Championship will be provided on CanadaSoccerTV.
