ALBANY, N.Y. - University at Albany men’s
soccer coach Trevor Gorman announced six new players to join the Great Danes’
roster in the fall of 2013 on Wednesday, May 28.
“We’re
excited to be adding a group with such tremendous potential” Gorman stated. “Our
coaching staff has spent a lot of time identifying the right fits for our
program needs, and we feel that each of these young men will be good additions
to our squad.”
Jordan
DiLapo: GK – 6’1 – 175lbs. – Colden, NY (Orchard Park HS/Loyola,
MD)
Quick Facts:
DiLapo spent the past year at Loyola University, a member of a squad that
captured the 2012 MAAC regular season title. He spent his youth career
participating for the Cleveland Internationals and Empire United of the USSD
Academy, as well as with FC Buffalo of the NPSL. He was a three year starter at
Orchard Park HS, helping them to three consecutive divisional semi-final
appearances.
Gorman on DiLapo: “Jordan comes
back to his home state after spending a year in a quality program at Loyola.
He’s a very dedicated individual who is looking forward to joining our
goalkeeping group. We’re looking forward to continuing his development here at
UAlbany.”
Jonathan
Interiano: FWD – 6’2 – 188lbs. – Brentwood, NY (Brentwood
HS)
Quick Facts:
A 2012 NSCAA High School All American, Interiano completed a decorated career at
Brentwood HS leading his team to the state championship match. A former member
of Alberston in the USSD Academy, and Dix Hills soccer club, he has also
represented the US Olympic Development Program throughout his youth soccer
career.
Gorman
on Interiano: “Jonathan is a big, strong, player who will physically adapt
quickly to the college game. He has been a part of winning teams, and programs,
throughout his career and will bring a great hard working mentality to our squad
from day 1.”
Eric
Orlogio: GK – 6’0 – 180lbs. – Williston Park, NY (The Wheatley
School)
Quick Facts:
A member of the Alberston USSD Academy program, Orlogio has been a part of a
defense that’s been at the top of the academy standings each of the past two
years. In 2011 he led his high school team to the NY Class B state championship
match.
Gorman
on Orlogio: “Eric is an athletic goalkeeper with great reflexes. He’s been
exposed to a high level of competition with his club team, and will be another
guy that we look forward to watching improve throughout his career with the
Great Danes.”
Luke
Palmateer: DEF – 6’3 – 180lbs. – Perth, Australia (St Mark's
Anglican School)
Quick Facts:
A member of the Balcatta Soccer Club, Palmateer has served as captain of their
U23 side. Additionally, he has previously served as captain of the U19 Western
Australia State Team, and of his St Mark’s Anglican School. He was a part of the
Balcatta squad that captured the state league title in 2011.
Gorman
on Palmateer: “Luke is an experienced defender who’s played, and trained,
at a high level throughout his development. He is excited to join our other
Australian players here in Albany, and we’re looking forward to adding him to
our defensive group.”
Michael
Pizzuti: GK – 6’0 – 180lbs. – Mount Vernon, NY (Archbishop Stepinac
HS)
Quick Facts:
A two-time CHSAA All-League, and two time high school team MVP, Pizzuti comes to
UAlbany having competed for the Westchester Flames club. Twice he accompanied
the Flames to the national finals, including a fourth place finish with the U20
group in 2012.
Gorman
on Pizzuti: “Michael is another goalkeeper who is excited about the
opportunity to grow within our program. He has trained with quality instructors
throughout his career and has a lot of tools that can develop during his time
here at UAlbany.”
Andres
Sandoval: MF – 5’11 – 165lbs. – Lindenhurst, NY (St. John the
Baptist HS)
Quick Facts:
A current member of the Albertson USSD Academy squad, Sandoval completed a
successful high school career at St. John the Baptist. Twice he was named an
all-state and all-league selection. He previously competed with the Lake Grove
United club team.
Gorman on Sandoval: “Andres is an
excellent technical player with a good range of pass. He understands the game
and enjoys being on the ball. We’re looking forward to his transition to the
college game and think he has the attributes to become an influential player for
us.”
