SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Following a season in
which he was honored as an All-BIG EAST First team selection, senior offensive
tackle Justin Pugh has found a place on the 2012 Outland Trophy watch list. The
award that is presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA)
honors the best interior lineman in college football.
The Holland, PA native is one of 71 players
recognized on the watch list and is only one of four BIG EAST interior linemen
featured. Pugh started every contest for the Orange the past two seasons and has
had consecutive seasons blocking for a 1,000-yard rusher. He was also one of 11
Syracuse football players named Phil
Steele's 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST
Teams, garnering first team honors.
The winner of the Outland Trophy is chosen by
the FWAA All-America committee and is named after the late John Outland, an
All-America lineman at Penn and Kansas. The award is in its 67th year of
existence and this year's recipient will be announced on the Home Depot College
Football Awards on Dec. 6th on ESPN. The Outland
Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee,
will be held on Jan. 10, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.
