Sorgie Named NECBL Pitcher Of The Week
NEWTOWN,
Pa. -- University at Albany baseball player Cameron
Sorgie has been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s
Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
Sorgie, a
right-handed pitcher from Shirley, N.Y., threw six shutout innings for the
Vermont Mountaineers, facing the minimum number of batters. Despite getting a no
decision in the June 16th start, Sorgie yielded just one hit, fanned seven, and
did not issue a single walk.
In
two starts this season, Sorgie owns a 1-0 record and 0.81 ERA, striking out 11
in 11 innings of work.
Sorgie and
fellow UAlbany teammate Josh
Nethaway, are currently in first place in the Western Division
standings, helping the Mountaineers to a 9-3 record.
The
New England Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat college summer league
that fields teams in all six New England states plus New York. Partially funded
by Major League Baseball, the NECBL started play in 1994 and has sent over 90
alumni to the Major Leagues.
