Albany, N.Y.- Chad O'Donnell was officially named
UAlbany men's basketball associate head coach on Monday, August
27.
O'Donnell has been with the
program for the past eight years as an assistant coach.
"I am excited to promote Chad (O'Donnell) to the position of Associate Head Coach", said head men's basketball coach Will Brown on the promotion. "He is a loyal and tireless worker. He has impacted our program in a variety of ways. Chad has developed strong relationships with our players and has helped them grow as student-athletes. I am happy for Chad and I am confident that he will continue to do a terrific job as we move forward". O'Donnell has recruited many of the basketball players during his time here including leading returning scorer senior guard Mike Black. Black, over the past three seasons at UAlbany, has scored over 1,000 points. O'Donnell is responsible for the recruiting in the Midwest and has made major inroads in the states of Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana during his time at Albany. "I'm honored and appreciative for the support from Dr. McElroy and Coach Brown in making this decision," Chad O'Donnell said. "I am fortunate to work at UAlbany; where you can recruit and mentor true student-athletes while working alongside incredibly talented people." Prior to Albany, O'Donnell served as Director of Basketball Operations at the College of Charleston in 2003-04 when they finished with a 20-9 record. He also served in the same capacity at Robert Morris University for current St. Bonaventure Coach Mark Schmidt in 2002-03. He was an assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire in 1999-2000, and worked for a three-year period at the College of the Holy Cross. He directed all national recruiting efforts for the Patriot League program. O'Donnell began his college coaching career as an assistant at Worcester State College in Massachusetts. From 1993-95, he handled the Division III program's recruiting, scouting and practice preparation, plus was the junior varsity head coach. He went to work at Bryant College in Rhode Island the following year.
A native of Mendon, Mass., O'Donnell received
his B.S. in physical education from Springfield College in 1994. He has authored
several articles in coaching magazines. He and his wife, the former Anna
Tamborra, have two boys (Declan- 4, Brayden- 3), and a daughter (Madeline- 2
months). O'Donnell resides in Troy, NY.
