Syracuse, N.Y.- Syracuse's Tony Asante's goal in the 73rd minute would down UAlbany in its season-opener, 2-0, on Friday, August 24 at SU Soccer Stadium. The Great Danes begin the season 0-1 while the Orange start out 1-0. Syracuse held advantages in both shots, 22-7, and in corners, 11-2.
The
Orange would get on the scoreboard first with an UAlbany own-goal in the 48th
minute. Then in the 73rd minute, junior forward Tony Asante would put the game
away with his first goal of the season. Asante's goal was setup from teammate
senior forward Lars Muller to give the Orange a 2-0 lead.
With a minute and change off the clock, Syracuse's Lars Muller put the first shot on net but was denied by sophomore goalkeeper Tim Allen.In the 26th minute, sophomore forward Brandon Wilson looked to grab his first goal of the season with a header just inside the goalkeeper box but the shot would go right of the post. The Orange would lead in both shots, 7-2 and corner kicks, 4-1. UAlbany sophomore goalkeeper, in his first career start, made eight saves on 10 chances and Syracuse goalkeeper Alex Bono tallied two saves on two chances. UAlbany will look ahead to its home opener against Towson on Saturday, September 1. |
