UAlbany Volleyball Opens 2012 Season With 3-0 Loss To #8 Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawai'i - Emily Hartong recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead 8th-ranked Hawai'i to a 3-0 season-opening win over UAlbany on the first day of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Friday evening at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i posted set scores of 25-17, 25-6 and 25-17 in the sweep.

UAlbany received a team-high six kills from senior Dunja Prgomet, who also totaled six digs and one service ace. Sophomore setter Sofia Furlong recorded 16 assists, six digs and three kills, along with two total blocks to help the Great Danes, while senior Traci Vandegrift recorded seven digs and five kills with one solo block. Hawai'i (1-0) held UAlbany to a .044 team hitting percentage.

Hartong, who also recorded nine digs, was assisted at the net by Jane Croson, who recorded 11 kills in the match. Mita Uiato totaled 24 assists, while Alyssa Longo led Hawai'i defensively with 11 digs. Hawai'i hit .379 as a team and also recorded seven total blocks in the match.
UAlbany (0-1) will return to action on Saturday night, taking on Stanford at 5 p.m. (11 p.m. EST).
