George Suprick Supreme Once Again with Patriot Sprint Tour at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY, (June 29, 2012)- George Suprick is the winningest sprint car driver in Black Rock Speedway history, but it had been a long time since he had graced its Victory Lane; that is, until Friday Night when he got a taste of sweet redemption.

Suprick, the 2004 Black Rock Speedway and Patriot Sprint Champion from Clarks Summit, PA, lead all 25 laps of the PST Event at Black Rock for his 14th career series win and ninth Checkered Flag in Dundee . A lot has changed since his last BRS win in 2005 though.

“It’s still the same name here, but it is definitely a different deal here,” said Suprick in reference to his last win at the 4/10-mile. “I like it better without the walls. I just don’t want to wait this long to win here again.”

After driving from fifth to second in his heat race, Suprick found his way in to the redraw, where his junior helper selected the pole position for him. Suprick used an impressive start to claim the lead off Scott Hixson’s green flag from Alain Bergeron and began to slice through the lapped traffic by lap three.

Suprick would lead the train around with Bergeron and Justin Barger close in tow until lap 14, when the races only caution flag would wave and reset the frantic race that was unfolding.

“The track was a little slick in the middle so you had to run the bottom or the top, and my No. 87 was good in both,” reflected Suprick after the event. “I kept mixing up the line because I didn’t want Mr. Bergeron to know what to expect down the stretch.”

As the race moved to under five laps to go, Bergeron began to reapply the pressure with his No. 8B as the lead duo once again moved through lapped traffic. It was the moment of the race where back in May Suprick flipped out of the lead with a mechanical issue, but with all his parts working successfully, the information gained from that race was just what the veteran needed to carry through to the win.

“We learned a lot back in May and used it tonight to know what we needed. We had everything for everybody; we had them covered as the car kept getting better,” noted Suprick after the event. “The car got a little tight a few times as a hiked the wing back but it was good. This is still just a tune-up for August when it pays $4,000 to win.”

The win moved Suprick back in to a tie with his buddy Rick Wilson as the third-winningest driver in PST History.

As Suprick was clearing out of lapped traffic in the final three laps, Alain Bergeron slipped up the track and allowed Justin Barger to sneak by to steal the runner-up position. Barger, who won his heat in convincing fashion, was solid all feature long but was unable to gain enough on Suprick who ran a flawless event. It was the fifth straight top five at BRS for Barger.

Alain Bergeron also continued his streak of solid finishes in Yates County as he notched his fourth top three in the last two years, making his trip all the way from Quebec pay off. Tim Kelly, who made a much shorter trip of five miles to the track, won his heat and ran a solid fourth the entire way.

Bobby Breen, the winner of the event back in May, also won his heat race but an eighth place starting spot would make it an uphill climb for the Savannah , NY driver, as he would dig hard to round out the top five.

PST America point leader Bryan Howland drove up from 13th to 8th in the opening three laps and would pick off another pair of spots down the stretch to finish in sixth. Charlie Donk would charge from 15th to seventh, ahead of Scott Kreutter , Tommy Wickham and Jared Zimbardi , who completed the top 10.

A total of 23 sprints helped to fill the pits on a beautiful early summer night. Don Adamczyk won the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame for the second straight time at Black Rock but would forced pitside early.

B-Mets Swept Away to Start Homestand, 8-5

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Bowie Baysox collected a dozen hits and scored eight runs over the final five innings to complete a four-game sweep, defeating the Binghamton Mets 8-5 Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Baysox scored 33 runs and collected 49 hits in the four-game series, extending the B-Mets home losing streak to six games.

For the second straight night, Binghamton drew first blood. With a man on first in the second inning, Dustin Martin drove the first pitch he saw from starter Zach Clark over the right field wall for his first homer as a B-Met.

B-Mets starter Greg Peavey took the 2-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning. Peavey had escaped trouble in the first and fourth, but could not dodge the Bowie offense in the fifth. Jai Miller, the nine-hitter, squeaked a two-out, two-run homer over the right field wall to tie the game at two.

Bowie took the lead for good with a three-run sixth. Manny Machado made Peavey pay for issuing two walks by stroking a two-run double to left field. The RBI’s were his seventh and eighth of the series. Rhyne Hughes followed with an RBI double, giving Bowie a 5-2 lead. Britton added another run in the seventh, launching a solo homer against reliever Armando Rodriguez.

Clark settled in nicely after Martin’s home run and retired 14 of the next 15 B-Mets he faced. The stretch came to an end when he walked Eric Campbell to start the seventh. After a single by Wilmer Flores, Clark recorded two outs.

Binghamton fought back as Travis Ozga provided an RBI single up the middle and Sean Kazmar cut the deficit to two with an RBI ground-rule double to right. Reliever Robert Hinton replaced Clark and induced Lagares to ground out to end the inning, stranding the tying run on second.

Bowie continued their relentless offensive attack in the eight. Robbie Widlansky singled, moved to second on a throwing error by catcher Francisco Pena, took third on a single and scored on a sac fly by Hughes.

Trailing by three, the B-Mets loaded the bases on three singles in the eighth. They only scratched out one run with Dustin Martin providing the RBI on a groundout. Pena struck out to end the inning.

After the Baysox added one more run in the ninth against Edgar Ramirez, the B-Mets went down in order against Kyler Newby to end the ballgame.

Clark (7-4) allowed four runs on five hits over 6.2 innings in the winning effort, extending his winning streak to four games. Peavey (3-5) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits over six innings. Newby collected his third save.

The B-Mets (36-42) continue their eight-game homestand by welcoming in the Altoona Curve for a four-game set. The series begins Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Tim Alderson. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

"These new players are going to help give us a deeper, more competitive team, and on top of that they are hard workers who all have their best tennis ahead of them", said Head Coach Gordon Graham on his three newcomers. " This is an exciting time for Great Dane tennis. We are a team that is moving onward and upward with the goal to be "in the hunt" for the America East title soon. Adding these three players ,with the returnees we have, will be a big step in that direction."

She finished in the Top 8 of her age group in the Netherlands in 2009 and 2011, and was ranked in the Top 120 women in the Netherlands in 2010. From 2010 on, Hermans geared down her tennis time commitment to focus on her academics. She started tennis at 5 years old and plans to play it the rest of her life. She is undecided on her course of study at UAlbany, but is interested in psychology, pre med and mathematics. Her father Peter owns his own business and her mother, Petra, is a physiotherapist and now works for the Dutch Tennis Federation. COACH GRAHAM on CRUMMEY: "Cat is one of the toughest competitors I have seen. She will fight tooth and nail for a match. B-Mets Earn Doubleheader Split, 2-0 & 5-1

AKRON, OH – The Binghamton Mets split a doubleheader against the Akron Aeros at Canal Park on Wednesday night, losing the opener by a 2-0 score before winning the nightcap in a 5-1. Cory Mazzoni led the B-Mets in the victory, tossing his first career complete game in his Double-A debut.

After dropping the first two games of the roadtrip, the B-Mets looked to Zack Wheeler in game one. The righty posted a scoreless first inning before Binghamton’s shaky defense cost him in the second. With runners at first and second and one out, Ben Copeland sent a potential double play ball to short. Josh Rodriguez flipped to Rylan Sandoval for one, but his relay to first skipped past Eric Campbell, allowing Thomas Neal to score from second.

The defensive missteps continued in the third. With one out and runners at the corners, Chun Chen sent a ground ball to third that could have ended the inning. Jefry Marte initially juggled and got just one out. Davis Stoneburner scored to give the Aeros a 2-0 lead.

It was all the offense starter T.J. House needed. The left-hander went the distance, tossing his second career complete game shutout. After stranding two in the first inning, House faced just two over the minimum, limiting the B-Mets to two hits. The lefty retired the final nine he faced to hand the B-Mets their eighth shutout loss of the year.

Wheeler (6-3) suffered the hard-luck loss, snapping his six-game winning streak. It was the first time Binghamton had lost behind Wheeler since April 24. The righty allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. House (5-2) collected his first win in three tries against Binghamton.

The Binghamton offense finally woke up in the nightcap. Marte started a two-out rally in the first against Akron starter Francisco Jimenez with a single up the middle. Marte stole second and came home when Eric Campbell ripped a double down the third base line. It was the first time in seven games the B-Mets have scored first.

The Aeros scratched back with a run of their own against Mazzoni in the first. Juan Duaz doubled to left, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a single from Nick Weglarz. Akron loaded the bases later in the inning, but Mazzoni wiggled out of damage by inducing Matt Lawson to fly out to center.

With the game knotted at one, the B-Mets unleashed an offensive attack in the fourth against Jimenez. Binghamton loaded the bases with two singles and a walk. Kai Gronauer broke the tie by drilling a two-run single that bounced off Jimenez’s back and rolled into centerfield. Pedro Zapata brought home another run by beating out a double play ball and Reese Havens capped the scoring with an RBI single to left.

Mazzoni (1-0) took the lead to the finish line to earn his first win. The righty faced just two over the minimum over his final six shutout innings, surrendering just three hits along the way. In total, he allowed one run on five hits over seven innings while collecting four strikeouts.

He becomes the third Binghamton starting pitcher to win his Double-A debut, joining Darin Gorski and Greg Peavey who performed the feat in April. Jimenez (0-1) allowed five runs on seven hits in the loss.

The B-Mets (32-37) look for the series split Thursday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Gonzalez Germen takes the hill against LHP Gionvanni Soto. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

World of Outlaws Late Model Series News & Notes: Tour Returns To Canada For Doubleheader At Autodrome Granby & Cornwall

World of Outlaws Late Model Series News & Notes: Tour Returns To Canada For Doubleheader At Autodrome Granby & Cornwall
DIRTcar Modified Stars-Turned-WoO LMS Regulars T-Mac, Coffey & Fuller Lead National Tour Across Border
CONCORD, NC – June 20, 2012 –
FAMILIAR FACES: When the World of Outlaws Late Model Series invades Canada this weekend for races on Friday night (June 22) at Quebec’s Autodrome Granby and Sunday evening (June 24) at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway, the local fans will focus on three tour regulars whom they already know quite well.
New Yorkers Tim McCreadie, Tim Fuller and Vic Coffey have some history at the tracks from their days as DIRTcar Big-Block Modified stars, so they’ll be the first Outlaws to draw attention from the Canadian spectators.
The trio also hopes their experience and past success at the tracks will pay off with strong performances, especially at Granby, a half-mile oval 45 minutes east of Montreal that will host the WoO LMS for the first time. The national tour previously competed annually at Cornwall from 2008-2010.
“I know myself, McCreadie and Fuller, all three of us have been (to Granby) a bunch (for DIRTcar Big-Block and 358-Modified events) so we probably have a little bit of an upper hand,” said Coffey, who sits sixth in the current WoO LMS points standings. “I’m sure everybody will catch on quick, but hopefully we can use (prior Granby knowledge) to our advantage.”
Coffey, 40, of Caledonia, N.Y., is also hoping that his past open-wheel success in Canada – most notably, he won the first DIRTcar 358-Modified Series feature of his career in the country, at Brockville Ontario Speedway – is a good omen for his first-ever WoO LMS trip across the border. He is winless in 127 career WoO LMS A-Main starts, though he’s been close to reaching Victory Lane several times.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Coffey said of the swing. “I’ve had some success at both places. It’s been a while (since his last appearances), but I’m hoping to go up there and have a little familiarity.”
No one should feel more comfortable at Granby than Fuller, a 44-year-old from Watertown, N.Y. He not only owns a late ‘90s DIRTcar 358-Modified Series victory at the track, but also a triumph in Granby’s only previous full-blown dirt Late Model event, an All-Star Late Model Series show on Aug. 11, 2010. His full-fender visit almost two years ago makes him quite certain that Friday’s 50-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Main will be extremely competitive.
“It raced good, just like it did with a Mod,” Fuller said of Granby in ’10. “There was a good top and a good bottom. It’s flat as it gets and a decent-sized track, so I think it’ll race fairly well. I think it’ll be a pretty good show.”
McCreadie, 38, of Watertown, N.Y., enters the weekend carrying plenty of momentum (two wins, six top-fives and no finish worse than seventh in his last eight WoO LMS starts), but that’s not the only reason he’s anxious to unload his Sweeteners Plus equipment in the pit areas of the Granby and Cornwall facilities. He also likes racing at both speedways.
“It’s been a little under 10 years since I’ve been (to Granby),” said McCreadie, “but it’s always been a good track. We’ve been up there for years and the racing is usually good. You race top and bottom.”
And on Cornwall, a quarter-mile oval that returns to the WoO LMS schedule after a one-year absence, McCreadie said, “Cornwall is just one of the raciest tracks we go to. Small track, action-packed, great fans, packed house – I don’t think anybody’s been unhappy with that place when we’ve gone there with the Late Models. It’s such a great racetrack, and if you’re the fastest car you’re gonna drive right to the front.”
Cornwall holds a special place in McCreadie’s heart since it’s where he won the first major 100-lap race of his career, a DIRTcar 358-Modified Series show during his rookie year as a driver in 1996. He’s fallen short of WoO LMS glory there, however, finishing second in ’08 and ’09 and seventh in ’10 (after rallying from the rear of the field because he slid off the track).
The three Big-Block transplants also have an appreciation of the uniquely boisterous Canadian fans. Fuller affectionately calls them “insane” for their deep devotion, while Coffey noted that they “always come out strong up there.”
And McCreadie singles out Quebec’s spectators as some of the most excitable he comes across in his travels.
“The French-speaking Canandian fans are very passionate and love their sport,” said McCreadie, who enters the weekend ranked fourth in the WoO LMS points standings. “They’re gonna have a blast and hopefully we’ll put on a good show for them.”
MOVING ON: Kent Robinson knew that his rookie season on the WoO LMS wouldn’t go by without some bumps in the road. He just wishes he didn’t have to experience the rough patch that struck him last weekend.
In the span of 24 hours, Robinson exploded an engine on Saturday night at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and rolled his car on Sunday evening at Eriez Speedway. The Hagerstown blow-up came just as he had crossed the finish line to win a heat race, while the accident at Eriez – no fault of his own – occurred as he was battling for a transfer spot and forced him to start the A-Main (thanks to a provisional) in a local crate Late Model.
“This is definitely the hardest time I’ve ever been through in racing – blowing a motor one night, and then flipping over the next night,” said Robinson, who escaped the Eriez crash without injury. “It’s hard times, but that’s part of it. You have the ups and the downs, and you just gotta work through it and hope it all pays off in the end.”
Robinson, 25, of Bloomington, Ind., was concerned that he might have to drop off the tour due to the “catastrophic” damage his car sustained at Eriez, but he was able to regroup this week while working out of fellow WoO LMS regular Chub Frank’s shop in Bear Lake, Pa.
“It was a situation where all of a sudden I have to make a decision – if I couldn’t find another car (his wrecked machine could not be immediately repaired), I might have had to just go home because I didn’t want to go into Canada and do the rest of this swing with just one car,” said Robinson, who recently matched his career-best WoO LMS finish with a sixth-place run on May 26 at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va. “But everything worked out. When we got up to Chub Frank’s shop we started putting feelers out there trying to find another MasterSbilt car, and we came across the Loco-Motives team that (Winchester, Va.’s) Ronnie DeHaven drives for and they had a car with just a few races on it. We worked it out and ended up buying in, and they brought it up (to Frank’s shop on Tuesday night).
“It’s just a rolling chassis, but it’s a pretty new car. We worked until 4 a.m. (Tuesday) night and been all day (Wednesday) getting it together for a backup, so I’m gonna have two cars and two motors for the rest of the trip.
“Hopefully we won’t have to run the (newly-purchased) car in any of these upcoming races, and then we can get home and regroup for a few days before going out west (for the six-race ‘Wild West Tour’ July 6-14).”
FUN TRIP: Rick Eckert is a veteran dirt Late Model racer from York, Pa., and has only been traveling to Canada for races since ’07, but he’s quickly developed some connections to the area’s fans that make him look forward to the WoO LMS excursion.
“The fans up there are incredible,” said the defending WoO LMS champion, who won the tour’s A-Main at Autodrome Drummond in 2008. “They’re neat people. I have Canadian fans who call me every week.
“They’re really into racing up there. It’s a little different because they only get to see Late Models but once a year.”
Eckert has even been getting some Canadian crew help during his recent trips north. He’s friendly with Luc Lalancette, who operates Total Race Supply in St-Andrews, Ont., and both Lalancette and his son have lent Eckert a mechanical hand.
LOOKING FOR MORE: Darrell Lanigan isn’t just the hottest driver on the WoO LMS, with four wins in his last six starts and a commanding lead in the points race. He’s also the last driver to win a World of Outlaws A-Main in Canada.
Lanigan, 42, of Union, Ky., was victorious the last time the tour crossed the border, on Aug. 23, 2010, at Drummond. It’s his only career win in Canada, but that statistic could very well change this weekend considering his acumen on big tracks like Granby and his past performance at Cornwall, where he’s improved his finishing position in each of his previous three starts (fourth in ’08, third in ’09 and second in ’10).
NO REST: Kennedy Motorsports teammates Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., and John Lobb of Frewsburg, N.Y., have been busy preparing for this weekend’s action after both drivers ran into trouble during Sunday night’s WoO LMS event at Eriez Speedway.
Clanton broke an engine while leading early in the Eriez A-Main, giving him some unwanted work to do under the hood while stationed this week at the Warren, Pa., shop of his future father-in-law, Ron Davies, a 2011 WoO LMS regular who will rejoin the tour for this weekend’s Canadian swing.
Lobb, meanwhile, was left with a car in need of major repairs after being swept up in Kent Robinson’s accident at Eriez. That machine is already back in Georgia receiving frame repair at the Capital Race Cars shop so it will be ready for next weekend’s Firecracker 100, leaving Lobb with one car available for duty.
Lobb started Eriez’s feature (thanks to a points provisional) in the car driven earlier in the night by his brother Randy.
ANOTHER TRIP NORTH: Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., is a stalwart of the WoO LMS’s Ontario and Quebec trips, entering all nine events the tour contested in the provinces from 2007-2010. He’ll be back this weekend, hooking up with his buddy Rick Eckert to follow the swing.
Stone, 34, scored his best Canadian WoO LMS finish in 2009, placing fifth at Ohsweken (Ont.) Speedway. His next best outing is a sixth, in 2010 at Cornwall.
The affable driver known as ‘Big Brother’ has competed at Granby, but it wasn’t a memorable visit. He entered the track’s 2010 All-Star Late Model Series event and rode out flipped wildly, though he fortunately escaped injury.
IN NEED OF A WIN: Chub Frank hasn’t enjoyed much success at Cornwall (finishes of 11th in ’08, eighth in ’09 and 13th in ’10), but he’s hopeful that he can turn that history around and challenge for a victory.
Or better yet, the 50-year-old standout would like to reach Victory Lane on Friday night at Granby. If he’s able to do that, then he’ll prevent his WoO LMS winless streak, which sits at 99 races entering the weekend, from reaching triple figures.
Frank’s last WoO LMS triumph came on Aug. 22, 2009, at Atomic Speedway (then K-C Raceway) in Alma, Ohio. He’s flirting with a checkered flag this year, however, as evidenced by his six top-five finishes to date – more than he had all of last season.
FIRST-TIMERS: WoO LMS Rookie of the Year contenders Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., and Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., will make their first-ever dirt Late Model starts in Canada.
MAPLE LEAF WINNER: Second-year WoO LMS traveler Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., has never entered a race in Ontario or Quebec, but the 48-year-old driver has reached Victory Lane in Canada. He owns triumphs in spec-motor WISSOTA-sanctioned events at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Estevan (Sask.) Motor Speedway.
CAT’S HELPER: One of WoO LMS regular Clint Smith’s crewmen, Duane Treadwell of Lagrange, Ga., will enter the Canadian events as a teammate to Smith. Treadwell competes regularly in local and regional events in his home state but has curtailed his scheduled slightly this year to travel with Senoia, Ga.’s Smith.

FULL-FENDER DEBUT: Ron Davies will put a familiar face in his second car for the Canadian swing: his 27-year-old son Dan, a UMP-type open-wheel Modified standout who will take his first shot at dirt Late Model racing this weekend.

OH, CANADA: A contingent of Canadians who compete regularly in the dirt Late Model wars at Brighton (Ont.) Speedway plan to bolt open motors in their cars this weekend to test their skills against the Outlaws.

At least five Brighton racers are expected to enter both the Granby and Cornwall events, including Ontario residents Greg Belyea of Frankford, Charlie Sandercock of Belleville, Philip Potts of Frankford, Matt Vanderlinden of Trenton and Caley Weese of Belleville. Corey Earl of Picton, Ont., meanwhile, currently has only the Cornwall show on his schedule.

Weese, 25, finished 24th in the 2010 WoO LMS A-Main at Cornwall, making her one of four female drivers to start a WoO LMS headliner. She stands alongside Jill George of Cedar Falls, Iowa, who is following the tour in 2012 and is expected to compete in Canada, April Farmer of Livingston, Tenn., and Amanda Whaley of Millsboro, Del.

WoO IN CANADA: The WoO LMS contested 10 races in Canada from 2007-2010, visiting five tracks in three provinces. Only one host track, Estevan (Sask.) Motor Speedway in 2008, has been outside the Ontario/Quebec region.

Two-time WoO LMS champion Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., is the tour’s most prolific winner in Canada, with three victories (Cornwall in ’08 and ’09, Ohsweken in ’09). Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., owns two wins (Drummond in ’07, Cornwall in ’10), while single victors include McCreadie (Ohsweken ’08), Eckert (Drummond ’08), Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis. (Estevan ’08), Fuller (Ontario’s Merrittville Speedway in ’10) and Lanigan (Drummond ’10).
BIG SHOW : Friday night’s inaugural WoO LMS event at Autodrome Granby will have a celebratory atmosphere, said track promoter Dominic Lussier.
“It’s a long (holiday) weekend in Quebec for St-John the Baptist Day so we will have fireworks during the night and a big bonfire with music either in the pits or the parking lot after the race,” said Lussier, who oversees a superb facility that features, among other amenities, a steep grandstand, three-story VIP tower, huge turn-three scoreboard and pedestrian tunnel under the homestretch. “We will also make a nice presentation (introduction) of the drivers on the track before the race.”

THEY’RE BACK: Cornwall owner Ron Morin is such a huge fan of dirt Late Model racing, he travels every year to Florida to spend a couple February weeks getting his fill of the division.

So it’s no surprise that it’s a big deal for him to have the WoO LMS at his spic-and-span speedway for a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win event.

“I love having the World of Outlaws come to Cornwall,” said Morin, whose track presents a very successful weekly Sunday-night show headlined by the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds. “Every race we’ve had has been exciting, and since we went a year without having a Late Model show everybody is really looking forward to Sunday night. We’ve been having a good year and I think if the weather holds for Sunday it’ll be a super show.”

ROCHESTER, NY (June 19, 2012)- The 2012 Patriot Sprint Tour has been alive for more than two months now; but this weekend a new chapter in PST history will begin to unfold.

On Saturday, South Buxton will be rocking, but it is a venue that many of the competitors are much less familiar with. With $3,000 up for grabs however, the fight is sure to be on. B-Mets Start Roadtrip with Two Losses, 6-4 & 4-2

AKRON, OH – The Binghamton Mets kicked off a critical nine-game roadtrip with a pair of losses against the Akron Aeros, falling in the resumption of a suspended game by a 6-4 score in ten innings before dropping the nightcap by a 4-2 final in seven frames.

In an unusual circumstance, the B-Mets played as the home team in the opener as they resumed a game that was originally suspended at NYSEG Stadium in the top of the sixth inning on June 4 with the score knotted at two.

Nick Weglarz quickly broke that tie by blasting a solo home run to right against Armando Rodriguez in the sixth. The outfielder doubled Akron’s lead with another solo home run in the ninth, banging a drive off the batter’s eye in center.

Binghamton would not go down without a fight in the ninth. Dustin Martin walked against Jose De La Torre to start the inning and moved to third on a double from Josh Rodriguez. A wild pitch allowed Martin to score and a sac fly from Juan Lagares tied the game at four. The B-Mets had the potential game-winning run at second, but Jefry Marte struck out to end the inning.

Brad Holt took the mound for the ninth and things immediately went south. In a span of six batters, the righty allowed one hit and issued four walks, including two with the bases loaded, giving the Aeros a two-run lead.

Bryce Stowell entered in the tenth and posted a perfect inning to collect his second save. De La Torre (3-0) suffered his first blown save, but earned his third win. Holt (2-1) was saddled with his first loss.

The break between games did nothing to dampen Akron’s offense. The Aeros used four hits against B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon in a three-run first inning, highlighted by Thomas Neal’s two-run homer.

Binghamton scratched back with single runs in the second and third against starter Paolo Espino, but it’s as close as they would get. Juan Centeno provided an RBI triple in the second and Josh Rodriguez launched a solo homer to center to cut the deficit to one.

Neal provided more insurance for the Aeros with an RBI single against Cohoon in the third. All three of the right fielder’s RBI’s came with two outs.

Trailing by two, Binghamton’s final threat came in the sixth when Dustin Martin lined a one-out single to left. Reliever Bryan Price entered and induced Lagares to ground into a fielder’s choice before getting Travis Ozga to ground out to end the inning. Binghamton went down in order in the seventh.

Cohoon (3-7) suffered the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings. The lefty retired the final eight he faced to cap his night. Espino (1-2) earned his first win as an Aero since August 2011, while Price nailed down his fourth save.

The B-Mets (31-36) look to snap their three-game losing streak Wednesday evening in a doubleheader. The opener is set to start at 6:05 PM with RHP Zack Wheeler taking on LHP T.J. House. The nightcap pits a pair of freshly-promoted pitchers in RHP Cory Mazzoni for the B-Mets and LHP Frankie Jimenez for the Aeros. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 5:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Eddie Marshall Returns to Victory Lane, Hebing Takes ESS Win

West Lebanon, NY: Another hot steamy night of racing action at the famed high banked ½ mile known as the Valley of Speed. On tap for another full night of racing action included the mighty Modifieds, the ESS Sprint Series, and a $1,000 Pro Stock ‘Bubba Tanner Classic’.

Times Union and Food Service presented the full show of events, including the 25 Lap ESS sprint series shootout. After several cautions and red flags, Chuck Hebing held on for the win. For more information and the full story, visit www.EmpireSuperSprints.com.

The mighty big block Modifieds took to the high banks for their 30 laps feature event. Out front early was the #55K of Mike King with the #16 of Kyle Hoffman. By lap 8, the #98 of veteran driver Eddie Marshall took over the top spot and began to check out of the field.

Caution flew on lap 11 for contact between Jimmy Burns #101 and the #27D of Dave McFeeters, sending McFeeters spinning into the inside front stretch wall. When the green flag flew, Marshall checked out again, this time with the other #98 of Kolby Schroder hot in tow.

Caution flew again for the #43 of Keith Flach making hard contact with the turn 3 wall, ending his night. Back at the front, Marshall was in control, Schroder was still hangin tough, and a battle was brewing for 3rd on back.

But at the checkers, Eddie Marshall scored his first win of the season. Schroder crossed the line 2nd, the battle for 3rd was won by Brian Berger, with Donnie Corellis and Brett Hearn having to settle for 4th and 5th.

The 7th Annual Bubba Tanner Classic Presented by DMC Racing Products brought the Pro Stocks out for their 23 Lap feature, and a cool $1,000. At the point it was Jay Casey in his familiar #322 taking early control, but the red flag flew on lap 2 for a multicar pileup at the beginning of the front stretch that saw at least 10 cars.

5 cars were done for the night, they included Jay Corbin, Milo Campbell, Rick Duzlak, Paul Rogers, and Chuck Towslee. When the green flag flew again, Casey was out front and in control.

The battle was on as Casey had plenty of company at the front with Nick Hilt Jr, Chad Jeseo, Robbie Speed and Jon Routhier all shuffling for a shock at the #322 and the win. But in the end, in true Bubba fashion, the 5 way battle finished like a hornets nest, with Casey taking home the trophy and the $1,000 payday.

Chad Jeseo had to hold on for 2nd with Nick Hilt finishing 3rd while Robbie Speed and Jon Routhier rounded out the top 5.

In the Purestocks, Jay Casey scored the win in PS#1, Lloyd Tomlin took the win in PS#2, and Al Relyea made a last lap pass to win PS#3.

Next Saturday Night, Gendrons Truck Center and Homestown Stores present NYSSCA Night and Kiddie Rides plus the return of the Steve Hough Motors 358 Modifieds! Then it’s the Eve of Destructionon Tuesday June 26th!

VALLEYCATS TENTATIVE ROSTER RELEASED

Five return from 2011, 13 will make their pro debut TROY, N.Y. – The tentative Opening Day roster for the Tri-City ValleyCats was released on Thursday afternoon.

It features 24 players who will begin their summer with Tri-City for the 2012 season. Five players from the 2011 team will make their return to Tri-City including pitchers Jamaine Cotton, Juri Perez and Tommy Shirley. Shirley, also a member of the ValleyCats 2010 championship team, pitched in just five games in 2011 after battling injuries throughout the 2010-11 seasons.

Position players making their return include infielders Neiko Johnson and Chase Davidson. Davidson was promoted to Tri-City in 2011 following an all-star first half for Rookie League Greeneville, before going down with an injury. 13 college players selected in the 2012 MLB Draft will make their professional debuts with the ValleyCats.

Third-round pick Brady Rodgers, a starting pitcher, and fifth-round selection Andrew Aplin, an outfielder, were teammates with Arizona State, and will join each other in Tri-City to begin their professional baseball careers. Rodgers is one of seven players on the ValleyCats roster from the state of Texas. He was most recently selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America third team. He led the Sun Devils in innings pitched with 115 and strikeouts with 79.
Aplin earned Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention recognition and ranked first on the team and fourth in the Pac-12 in runs scored. There are three international players on the tentative Opening Day roster, two from Puerto Rico and one from Venezuela.

The team will be led by second-year manager Stubby Clapp, hitting coach Mark Bailey and pitching coach Rick Aponte, who is entering his first season with Tri-City. The ValleyCats begin their 2012 season against the Lake Monsters in Vermont on Monday, June 18. The team will return to “The Joe” on Wednesday, June 20 for their home opener against the same Lake Monsters.

First pitch is scheduled for 7pm, and there are only a limited number of seats still remaining. For ticket information and more, call 629-CATS or visit www.tcvalleycats.com
