Patriot Sprint Tour Event at Black Rock Cancelled Due to Rain

Shop for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Superman Man of Steel T's and Diecast CarsRich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY, (June 28, 2013)- What was supposed to be the second appearance of the season for the Patriot Sprint Tour at Black Rock Speedway this Friday has been knocked out due to weather concerns.

With heavy rains hitting the Dundee oval throughout the week, a poor forecast, which included flood watches, forced Black Rock Speedway management in to a decision to cancel the event well in advance with the possibility of racing lost.

At this point, no make-up date has been set for this Patriot Sprint Tour event, however the series will return on August 9, joining forces with the United Racing Company for the $4,000-to-win A-Verdi Championship.

The next scheduled date for the Patriot Sprint Tour is a PST Canada Series event at Brockville Ontario Speedway on July 20. The next PST America events take place the following week, July 26 and 27, at Clinton County Raceway and Woodhull Raceway, respectively.

Burek, DeLallo Named America East Scholar-Athletes, Highlighting Conference Honor Roll

CAMBRIDGE, M.A. -- Women’s lacrosse player Rachael Burek and men’s track and field athlete John DeLallo have earned scholar-athlete honors for the spring season, the America East announced Thursday. Burek and DeLallo lead a class of 132 UAlbany student-athletes named to the America East Winter/Spring Honor Roll.

Senior Rachael Burek, a native of Rensselaer, N.Y., finished her career at UAlbany with a 3.56 GPA in business administration. On the field, Burek earned a number of accolades. In 2013, she was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week three times on her way to being named the 2013 America East Co-Player of the year. Burek earned America East All-Academic Team honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and was selected as a member of the 2013 IWLCA All-American Northeast Region Team. She leaves UAlbany holding the single-season records in assists (50) and points (84). In UAlbany’s archives, Burek joins four other women’s lacrosse athletes as an America East Spring Scholar-Athlete: Nikki Branchini (2011), Olivia Jarem (2010), Kate Fontana (2007), and Theresa Masse (2002, 2003).

Shop for the new Tim Tebow New England Patriots Game Jersey at NFLShop.comSophomore John DeLallo, a native of Marietta, N.Y., boasts a 3.87 GPA as a physics major and was named an America East All-Academic Team selection in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. DeLallo’s performance on the track earned him a 2013 Capital One Academic All-District ® Track / Cross Country First Team selection. Helping the UAlbany men to their ninth straight America East Outdoor Track and Field title, DeLallo led the 4x800m team to an America East Championship win (7:32.52), while also placing fifth in the 1500m run with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:48.79. In addition, DeLallo ran a conference-best 4x800m time (7:30.45) at Penn Relays and won the 800m at the Upstate Track and Field Classic (1:52.36). DeLallo marks the men’s track and field program’s third America East Spring Scholar-Athlete, joining two-time winner Valete Graham (2009, 2010) and Andy Allstadt (2006).

Including Burek and DeLallo, UAlbany has produced 20 spring scholar-athletes: six in men’s lacrosse, six in women’s lacrosse, three in softball, four in men’s track and field, and one in baseball.

Also including Burek and DeLallo, UAlbany saw 132 of student-athletes named to the 2013 America East Winter/Spring Honor Roll. Of the 132 student-athletes selected, 63 were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, signifying a GPA of 3.5 or higher. UAlbany men’s basketball earned the honor of leading all America East basketball programs with 10 athletes named to the Honor Roll, five of whom earned Commissioner’s honors. In total, 51% of UAlbany athletes were named to the Winter/Spring Honor Roll.

Sixty percent of America East student-athletes whom competed in winter or spring sports during the 2012-13 season, 1,337 total, earned America East Honor Roll distinction after achieving grade-point averages (GPA) of 3.00 or higher during the second semester. Nearly half of those student-athletes (638 total) earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for completing the spring semester with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
America East is proud to have one of the most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference’s 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors and sports information directors. Additionally, a scholar-athlete, someone who distinguishes his/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the Academic Cup is awarded to the school with the highest cumulative GPA among its student-athletes for that academic year.

Shop for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Superman Man of Steel T's and Diecast CarsELBRIDGE, N. Y. - The grueling week ahead may make or break many of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints racers, and Joe Trenca hopes it makes him. The 16-year-old 360 Sprint Car driver out of Clay, N. Y., hopes to start the series' first-ever CNY Speedweek out on the right foot with a good finish at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. "The Fast Track" opens the Speedweek with the Sprint Car Summer Shootout Wednesday, July 3, and competitors' success in the CNY Speedweek may hinge on their performance there.

"It's pretty cool that we're opening up on a big, nice, fast track for the Speedweek," said Trenca, a young driver with aspirations to someday tour with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series. "Rolling Wheels is a really unique track compared to the other ones. It's a real long track, it's a fast track, it's a lot different - long, long straightaways, and the corners are a little wider too, so it makes for a lot of room for racing."

With its unique 5/8-mile length, Rolling Wheels presents a special challenge for the extra-fast race cars to kick off their Speedweek. After Wednesday at Wheels, racers with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints will travel to four other Central New York tracks, racing nearly nonstop from Wednesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 7. Each show during the week pays a winner's share of $2,000, and at the end of the week, top point-getters receive an extra $1,000.

A $300-to-win show for the 305 Sprint Cars joins the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints at Rolling Wheels Wednesday, July 3, with a second generation of sprint car racers ready to show their skills. Kelly Hebing, daughter of Empire Super Sprint star "Cobra" Chuck Hebing, debuted in a 305 Sprint Car Saturday, June 22, at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and "Lil Cobra" plans to race at Rolling Wheels for the Sprint Car Summer Shootout. Canandaigua Motorsports Park rules apply for the 305 Sprint Car event at Rolling Wheels.

Rolling Wheels will also host a $300-to-win DIRTcar Pro Stock/Stock Car Challenge as part of the Sprint Car Summer Shootout. DIRTcar Pro Stock and Stock Car Rules or Home Track Pro Stock and Stock Car Rules will apply.

Be sure to stick around after the races for a special fireworks extravaganza in celebration of the national holiday!

Sorgie Named NECBL Pitcher Of The Week

NEWTOWN, Pa. -- University at Albany baseball player Cameron Sorgie has been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.

Sorgie, a right-handed pitcher from Shirley, N.Y., threw six shutout innings for the Vermont Mountaineers, facing the minimum number of batters. Despite getting a no decision in the June 16th start, Sorgie yielded just one hit, fanned seven, and did not issue a single walk.

In two starts this season, Sorgie owns a 1-0 record and 0.81 ERA, striking out 11 in 11 innings of work.

Sorgie and fellow UAlbany teammate Josh Nethaway, are currently in first place in the Western Division standings, helping the Mountaineers to a 9-3 record.

'Cats to host ALS Fundraiser at "The Joe" with special guest Tommy John

Event aims to raise awareness and funds for the fight against this disease, while paying tribute to those fighting for our county

NYYankeesFragrance.com-Sporty Confident Fragrance for Men, Women, Teens and Kids! 250 x 250 bannerTROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats have partnered with Strike Out Lou Gehrig's Disease, the National ALS Registry and the ALS Association to hold a fundraiser at "The Joe" on Saturday, July 6. Former Yankee great Tommy John will be in attendance as part of a meet & greet opportunity and ALSA Fundraiser Dinner in the ValleyCats Picnic Pavilion. Proceeds from this dinner will be donated to the ALS Association.

This event is part of a season-long partnership between Minor League Baseball and the ALS Association to strikeout Lou Gehrig's Disease. Part of this initiative is to support the men and women serving in our armed forces, as those in the military are twice as likely to develop Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The ValleyCats will pay tribute to our military heroes throughout the July 4th homestand and help raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's Disease as the National ALS Registry will be on hand with a table for each of these games, including Veterans Night on July 5th. The National ALS Registry is a research project that may help scientists find the cause, treatment and cure for the disease, which is fatal in an average of just two to five years.

Tickets are limited for this event with packages starting at $50 for entry into the ALSA Fundraiser Dinner from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., a premium box ticket to that night's game vs. the Lowell Spinners, a ValleyCats cap and a commemorative ALS camo ball. A special VIP Package is available for $75, and also includes a meet & greet with Tommy John from 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Brown's Brewing Company will also be joining the ValleyCats to support this cause as a proud participant in Ales for ALS, a national fundraising project to help discover a treatment for ALS. Brown's has brewed a special, limited edition batch of Iron Horse Ale in honor of legendary Yankee great, Lou Gehrig.

Victory At Cornwall Motor Speedway Gives Lanigan Sweep Of World of Outlaws Late Model Series Doubleheader In Canada

Defending Tour Champion Inherits Lead From McCreadie, Beats Resurgent Clint Smith To Finish Line

Shop for NASCAR gear that salutes American VeteransCORNWALL, ONT – June 23, 2013 – Stick a maple leaf on Darrell Lanigan’s car and call him the King of Canada.

The defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion from Union, Ky., completed an undefeated trip north of the border with the national tour on Sunday night, outrunning the resurgent Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., down the stretch to capture the 50-lap A-Main at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

“I kind of like coming up here to Canada,” said Lanigan, whose $10,650 triumph backed up his WoO LMS score three days earlier at Brighton (Ont.) Speedway. “We always seem to run well at these tracks up here.”

Lanigan, 43, benefitted from a dose of good fortune to win his series-leading sixth race of 2013. After race-long leader Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., had his full straightaway edge over Lanigan wiped out by a lap-28 caution flag, the restart saw McCreadie slow on the homestretch due to a broken driveshaft and spin into the infield – a dramatic turn of events that handed the top spot to Lanigan for good.

The 48-year-old Smith chased Lanigan’s Rocket car for the final 19 laps, drawing within striking distance of the leader with six circuits remaining. But the race’s fifth and final caution flag, on lap 47, cleared lapped traffic from the picture and allowed Lanigan to pull away, leaving Smith to settle for a season-best runner-up finish in his Rocket mount, 1.703 seconds behind the victor.

Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., started and finished third in his Victory Circle machine. He slipped back as far as fifth midway through the race before rallying to match his best WoO LMS outing of the season.

DIRTcar big-block Modified star Billy Decker of Unadilla, N.Y., who started 10th, placed fourth in the Gypsum Racing Rocket, earning his second top-five finish in three WoO LMS starts over the past five days. Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., completed the top five with a quiet-but-steady run in the Kennedy Motorsports Capital Race Car.

Lanigan swept the night at the high-banked, quarter-mile oval, setting fast time in Ohlins Shocks Time Trials and winning a heat race prior to grabbing his 47th career WoO LMS A-Main victory. His perfect performance marked his second win in three starts behind the wheel of the new Rocket car he debuted at the start of the tour’s current Northeast swing.

The winningest driver in WoO LMS history pulled off his latest conquest without having to deal with McCreadie, who appeared primed to grab his fourth WoO LMS win of the season after he bolted into the lead from the outside pole at the start of the race. Lanigan didn’t rule out the possibility, however, that he could have challenged McCreadie if the 39-year-old hadn’t met a miserable fate on lap 28.

“I think we were running him down a little because I could see him coming to me,” said Lanigan, who started fourth. “Now whether he had problems then, I don’t know. He might have been having rearend problems then.

“Even if we got there (to McCreadie), it was gonna be hard to pass him. But our car was good, and I’d liked to have raced with him.”

Smith kept Lanigan honest following McCreadie’s departure, but Lanigan never felt any serious pressure.

“I knew Clint was back there, but I knew I had a little bit of a lead there at the end,” said Lanigan. “As long as I ran my own race I was gonna be fine.”

Smith, who started fifth, was a very satisfied runner-up. It was by far his best run of the 2013 WoO LMS campaign; in the 20 events prior to Cornwall, he hadn’t recorded a single top-five finish.

“I’ll be honest with you – the way we’ve been running, it’s like a win,” said Smith, who gained control of second place on lap 31 when his good buddy, Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., slipped over the outside berm between turns one and two while challenging Lanigan and tumbled out of the top five. “I’m trying to stay on tour (with the WoO LMS), and a $5,000 night is a big step for me. That’s like a sponsorship compared to the $1,200 I’ve been getting (for finishing deep in the field). That’s like running five races in a row in one night. It definitely makes a big difference in where we’re going.”

Smith credited his strong run to Lanigan, who provided setup tips that dialed in his familiar No. 44.

“I got back on Darrell’s kind of setup program tonight,” said Smith. “He helped me last year a lot, but this year we’ve been running good around home so I was trying to bring that program out here on the road. It just ain’t good in this part of the country, and I feel like I just lost my way a little bit with setup over the past three or four races.

“I got with Darrell and he helped me get everything back right tonight – so even if I could get to him, I hated to race him hard because he helped me get what I was getting. If he’d have given it to me I’d have took it, but I wasn’t gonna do no slide-jobs or nothing to try and pass him.”

Smith did close in on Lanigan when the leader was in lapped traffic late in the distance, but the lap 47 caution flag effectively dashed his hopes.

“(Lanigan) had destroyed his right-rear tire racing with Fuller early in the race and I still had a good tire, so my car was a little more positive and a little more steady anywhere I wanted to go,” said Smith. “He kind of had to run a dedicated circle and keep his car pulling because he knew his tire was in bad shape, so he couldn’t move around the lapped cars as well as I could. That allowed me to gain on him, but in open track (after the caution) he was still Darrell Lanigan. He was rollin’.”

Finishing in positions 6-10 was WoO LMS rookie Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, whose sixth-place run matched his best tour finish of 2013; Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., who finished in the same spot he started; Rick Eckert of York, Pa.; Fuller, who started from the pole position but never led a lap and fell from contention when he lost ground while bidding to overtake Lanigan on lap 31; and points leader Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., who started eighth and was never a factor at a track where he won WoO LMS A-Mains in 2008 and ’09.

The race’s five caution flags were caused by relatively minor incidents. John Mason of Millersburg, Ohio, and Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., tangled in turn one on the opening lap; Larry Wight of Phoenix, N.Y., slid off the track between turns three and four on lap three; WoO LMS rookie Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., spun off turn three with a flat right-rear tire on lap 18; McCreadie needed wrecker service after losing the race on lap 28; and Adam Turner of Picton, Ont., spun in turn four on lap 47.

Twenty-six cars were entered in the event, which brought the WoO LMS back to Ron Morin’s Cornwall Motor Speedway for the first time since 2010. There was no race scheduled in 2011 and last year’s event was rained out.

Lanigan’s quick lap of 12.708 seconds in time trials was his third fast-time honor of 2013.

Heat winners were Lanigan, McCreadie and McCool. Stone captured the B-Main after his Leo Milus-owned ‘Super Deuce’ car was sidelined during heat action by a busted distributor.

The WoO LMS continues touring the Northeast on Tuesday night (June 25) at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park.

Click Here!CORNWALL, ONT – June 21, 2013 – If Billy Decker is ever going to break into Victory Lane on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the national tour’s return to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night (June 23) just might be his moment.

He loves the quarter-mile Canadian oval. He’s won there in Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified competition. He’s run well there in past WoO LMS events.

And most notable of all, Decker will go to the post in Sunday’s 50-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Main hot off a career-best World of Outlaws finish – a fact that would figure to bode well for the Big-Block Modified veteran’s chances at bagging a milestone full-fender triumph.

Decker, 48, of Unadilla, N.Y., is too modest to puff out his chest after recording a career World of Outlaws performance in his first dirt Late Model start of the season, but the competitor in him certainly understands what his standout run signified.

“Honestly, I don’t know if we’re ready to win an Outlaw race right now,” said Decker, whose third-place finish in the WoO LMS A-Main on June 19 at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway was his best since he began entering selected dirt Late Model shows in 2004. “These (WoO LMS) guys have been running these things all year, playing with ‘em to get themselves better, and we have a brand-new car (and just two dirt Late Model outings to date) so it’s all hearsay with it for us. If you look at it like that, we definitely shouldn’t be able to win.

“But I do think that if we get the car right and the stars and the moon line up right, then we can pull it off.”

One of the Northeast’s most accomplished DIRTcar Big-Block Modified drivers, Decker has entered 71 WoO LMS events and made 53 A-Main starts over the past decade, all behind the wheel of Rocket cars fielded by Gypsum Racing’s John Wight. His ledger shows five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes, including a 10 th-place run in his last circuit appearance on Thursday night at Brighton (Ont.) Speedway.

Two of Decker’s strongest WoO LMS outings have come at Cornwall, a high-banked, quarter-mile oval that hosted the tour annually from 2008-2010. He set fast time and finished seventh in the ’08 event and advanced from the ninth starting spot to place fourth in ’10.

With triumphs in Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified shows at Cornwall also under his belt, Decker clearly has a knack for navigating promoter Ron Morin’s bullring. His success there has made him a fan of the place, which was not on the 2011 WoO LMS schedule and last year had its scheduled event washed out by rain.

“It’s one of my favorite tracks, definitely one I always look forward to racing at,” said Decker, whose only subpar run in WoO LMS action at Cornwall was a 17th-place finish in 2009 (he was sent spinning with two laps remaining). “Cornwall is a lot of fun. It looks narrow, and it time-trials narrow and heat-races a little narrow, but usually about a third of the way through the (feature) race it widens out and then you can really race.

“For a place that doesn’t look big enough to lend itself to good racing, it sure does race well. A lot of that is because of the surface. When it slows down you can use the whole thing. You can run the top or the bottom, and it actually makes the track wider than what it appears early (in the program). It’s still narrow getting into one and you hog up a little room with the race car, but it races pretty dog-gone good.”

According to Decker, it’s no accident that all three of the WoO LMS events contested at Cornwall – current points leader Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., was victorious in 2008 and ’09, and Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., captured the ’10 A-Main – were wildly competitive affairs.

“It’s a quick little place and things happen so fast that nobody can take it easy,” said Decker. “But a lot of times what happens is that half the turn will slow down and half of it will speed it – like the bottom (groove) getting in will be really good but then getting off won’t be worth beans. Then the converse happens for the top – it might give up a little bit getting in and you’ll get off well.

“It keeps the racing good. You get a little separation in the turns, so if you get too loose and give up some space off of turn two it allows somebody that’s going good to get underneath somebody and create some good racing. It makes for an exciting track, that’s for dog-gone sure.”

Decker is hopeful that his affinity for Cornwall will combine with a flawless night setting up and driving his No. 91 machine to produce the type of perfect storm that can propel him across the finish line first in the A-Main.

“It helps that we’ve been there before,” Decker said of his experience at Cornwall, “but you look around at the (WoO LMS) field and most of the guys have already been there in the past. They’re not gonna have a problem figuring the place out, so we have to step up our game and make the right decisions with our car.

“I think once you get these things steering right it’s not as difficult as it seems. Back when we didn’t know what the hell we were doing (with a dirt Late Model) at all, that was our biggest problem. Now don’t misunderstand that statement – we still don’t know everything about these cars because we don’t run them enough, but we’ve gotten to the point with the steering that these cars aren’t as evil as when we first started. That at least gives me some confidence that we can hit it exactly right one of these nights.”

Decker will have to outduel a WoO LMS roster filled with star drivers at Cornwall, including Richards (three wins this season); defending champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. (five wins); Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga. (four wins); 2011 champ Rick Eckert of York, Pa.; Big-Block Modified stars-turned-WoO LMS regulars Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller, both from Watertown, N.Y., and both winners of Modified features at Cornwall; veterans Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., and Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga.; 2012 Rookie of the Year Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss.; and rookie travelers Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., and Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas.

Other drivers expected to enter Sunday’s action include Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa.; Decker’s Gypsum Racing teammate Larry Wight of Phoenix, N.Y.; Andrew Reaume of Blenheim, Ont.; John Mason of Millersburg, Ohio; teammates Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., and Gil Tegg Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; and Greg Belyea of Frankford, Ont., who is scheduled to drive Frank’s second car.

Cornwall Motor Speedway’s pit gates are scheduled to open at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The spectator gates will be unlocked at 3 p.m. for fans who have already purchased tickets and 3:30 p.m. for all other attendees, with WoO LMS time trials set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday’s card will also include the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Sportsman and Semi-Pros.

General admission prices (in Canadian currency) are $40 (adults), $25 (senior citizens 65-and-older) and $10 (students and children ages 18-and-under). Pit passes will cost $50.

Cornwall Motor Speedway is located at 16981 Cornwall Center Rd. in Long Sault, Ont.

SYRACUSE, N.Y.SU men’s soccer coach Ian McIntyre announced the addition of seven players who will join the Orange program for the upcoming 2013 season on Monday, June 17. The additions round out a class that already includes Alexis Halis (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and Mike Koegel (Chittenango, N.Y.) who enrolled back in January.

“During the recruitment process, it became apparent that this is a group of student-athletes with real character. They possess the drive and desire to succeed here at Syracuse,” McIntyre said. “Each of these young men will further assist the development and evolution of Syracuse soccer and they certainly share both our vision and lofty goals for the program. I would like to thank (assistant coaches) Jukka Masalin and Mike Miller for helping attract such a talented 2013 recruiting class.

Signee Profiles

Oyvind Alseth (Trondheim, Norway/KVT High School)

Alseth is one of two Norwegian-born student-athletes joining the Orange. Alseth played for Rosenborg BK the past three seasons, winning the U-19 national championship twice. He was also named the 2012 Profile Player of the Year. Alseth recently competed for Rosenborg against top-level European talent in the prestigious NextGen Series.

“Oyvind is a smart and technical defender who has gained tremendous confidence from competing against teams such as Liverpool, Inter Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund during this past year,” McIntyre said.

Aron Coste (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair High School)

Coste played club soccer for Bethesda SC, one of the premier squads in the Mid-Atlantic region and the Region I Premier League.

“Aron excelled at our camp and possesses an infectious passion for the game,” McIntyre said. “He has the technical tools and the work ethic to help our team on both sides of the ball.”

Emil Ekblom (Bekkestua, Norway/Toppidrettsgymnas (NTG) High School)

Like Alseth, Ekblom also hails from Norway. He has found success in club competition with Stabaek, a squad that competes against the upper echelon of Norway’s U-19 talent. Ekblom was the team’s top goal scorer in 2012 and earned MVP honors.

“Emil is a strong, mobile and technically-sound athlete who can play several attacking positions,” McIntyre said. “He is a player who has scored goals at every level he has played. I believe that Emil can quickly adapt to the college game and will be an exciting player to watch this fall.”

Emmanuel (Gogo) Kollie (Philadelphia, Pa./Otero Community College)

Kollie led Otero to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship match in 2010. He was named to the NJCAA All-Region First Team in both 2010 and 2011. Kollie has also had success in the Premier Development League (PDL), helping the Ocean City Nor’easters capture the 2012 Mid-Atlantic PDL Championship.

“’Gogo’ is a fantastic young man with endless personality and character,” McIntyre said. “He will provide us another exciting attacking option and I am looking forward to watching him wear an Orange shirt this fall.”

Kenneth Lassiter (Narbeth, Pa./Lower Merion High School)

Lassiter played scholastically at Lower Merion High School and for FC Delco in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. He was selected to represent the Philadelphia Union academy team that won the 2012 Major League Soccer (MLS) Generation Adidas Cup.

“Kenny is a player that can go by opponents on the dribble and he possesses a nice left foot,” McIntyre said. “He has the size and athleticism to make a quick transition to the college game here at Syracuse.”

Chris Nanco (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/St. Edmund’s Campion Secondary School)

Nanco was a teammate of Alex Halis’ on both Sigma FC and in the Canadian youth national program. Nanco won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Jamaica. His winning goal versus Trinidad and Tobago helped the Canadians qualify for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

“I have been watching Chris for several years now and he has a real pace that scares defenders and keeps them firmly on the back foot,” McIntyre said. “He is coming from an excellent Sigma FC program and I am excited to watch his progress here and see him compete in the ACC.”

Korab Syla (Yonkers, N.Y./Herkimer County Community College)

Syla starred at Herkimer County Community College under head coach Pepe Aragon. Syla led the Generals to the NJCAA Division III national title in both 2011 and 2012. He was named the 2012 NJCAA Player of the Year in 2012 after registering 27 points on five goals and 17 assists.

“I love Korab’s willingness to run at defenders and impose himself on each game,” McIntyre said. “He has already enjoyed tremendous success in college at Herkimer and we hope that success continues here at Syracuse.”

DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series contenders Rob Yetman and P. J. Peters were on the first row of the 31-car field for the 50-lap event. Yetman took the early lead as local runners Jocelyn Roy. Francois Adam got together sending Adam in the wall in turn 2 causing the first caution.

On the restart, Yetman led the way with brothers P. J. and Allan Peters behind him. Dan Desnoyers slowed in turn 3 and yellow was out with 4 laps completed. One the green flag, P. J. Peters was able to use the outside lane to his advantage and took the lead for 1 lap as Yetman came on strong and regain the lead the on lap 6.

Stephane Lemire challenged Allen Peters for third, both drivers swapping that position . Michel Desjardins hit the interior wall in turn 1 with 10 laps in the books.

Yetman maintained his lead on the restart with P.J. Peters now second, Lemire third, and George Renaud in the top 5 behind Allen Peters sitting in fourth.

By the halfway point, Yetman had built himself a comfortable lead over the Peters brothers, Lemire and Lebrun. The leaders got into heavy traffic on lap 30 and Lemire took this opportunity to grab third spot over Allan Peters.

Yellow lights came out on lap 31 as Michel Larocque stopped in turn 4. On the following green, Pascal Romaneski stepped out of line and caused a pileup involving a dozen cars, blocking the straightaway and bringing out the red flag. Richard Bertrand and Charles-David Beauchamp got the worst of the accident, needing help to the pit area.

Yetman kept the top spot with P. J. Peters behind him and Lemire third. Meanwhile, one of Granby`s top runner Alain Brochu made a charge to the top as he got Lemire and P. J. Peters on the same lap with only 15 to go. Brochu reeled in on the leader as he was now on his backnbumper on lap 38. Brochu used the inside lane and passed Yetman for the lead. Yellow was back out on the field with 10 laps to be completed.

Brochu quickly got away from the rest of the field as Yetman resisted charges from P. J. Peters and Lemire. Mathieu Voghell brought a caution on lap 43. Yetman had a slow leak starting on his left front tire, Brochu got the lead has Yetman fell behind with a flat.

Brochu, still in front with Lemire now second, found something on the top lane, led the final circuits to win his first career DIRTcar Pro Stock Series feature. Lemire, P. J. Peters, Alan Peters and Stephane Lebrun rounded out the top 5.

The Granby native was ecstatic in the winner`s circle: ''we struggled early on in the season but tonight was a lot of fun!'' On his biggest win of his career: ''I saw the #7 using the high lane and I was strong on the bottom and got by him, he is one of the top runners so it is pretty cool to beat him !''

The series remains in ''la Belle Province'' for another night as the series will travel to the RPM Speedway in St-Marcel de Richelieu for a first visit at the quarter mile bullring.

Rodriguez, Hughes Lead B-Mets to 6-5 Comeback Win

BINGHAMTON, NY – Rhyne Hughes’ three-run home run capped a four-run ninth inning comeback, and Josh Rodriguez’s walk-off double in the tenth pushed the Binghamton Mets past the Erie SeaWolves, 6-5 Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Trailing 5-1 entering the ninth inning, Danny Muno got the comeback started with a double off the right field wall against Melvin Mercedes. Two batters later Cesar Puello grounded a ball to shortstop, and the throw couldn’t be picked out of the dirt which put runners at the corners with one out. Allan Dykstra followed by driving in the first run of the inning with a double into right-centerfield. After Travis Taijeron flied out to shallow centerfield, the B-Mets were down to their final out, still down 5-2. Hughes came up big with a no-doubt, three-run blast over the centerfield wall to tie the game, 5-5.

In the tenth, the offense kept up the momentum against Ryan Rebowski. Darrell Ceciliani led off with a walk, and moved up to third on a bunt from Wilfredo Tovar. His bunt went back to Rebowski on the mound, and the throw to first hit off of Tovar’s back and went down the right field line. Two batters later, Rodriguez hit a 3-0 fastball into the gap that bounced over the fence for a walk-off ground-rule double.

For the first eight innings of the game, Binghamton failed to solve Erie starter Jon Link. The lone offensive highlight came in the second inning when Taijeron launched a solo home run over the left field wall. In his Erie debut, Link only gave up one run and five hits over eight innings.

After Binghamton got ahead 1-0, Erie scored five unanswered runs. Wade Gayner blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning against Mark Cohoon to give the SeaWolves a 3-1 lead. In the sixth against Jim Fuller, Hernan Perez knocked an RBI single to boost the lead. The final Erie run scored came in the top of the ninth when Gayner worked a bases-loaded walk against Ryan Fraser.

Jeff Walters retired the only two batters he faced in a scoreless top of the tenth, and picked up his fourth win of the season. Rebowski allowed the Rodriguez double and was tagged with the loss.

The win sets up the rubber match on Sunday between the B-Mets (45-28) and SeaWolves (38-34). Binghamton sends RHP Erik Goeddel to the mound to face LHP Matt Krouse for Erie. First pitch is at 1:05 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show starting at 12:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

POSTGAME NOTES: This was the fourth walk-off victory for the B-Mets this season…Saturday was Hughes’ first game since April 27…before the game, Binghamton was 0-24 when trailing after eight innings

UAlbany Claims Second Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup

PORTLAND, Maine -- Winning eight America East championships during the 2012-13 season, the University at Albany has claimed the conference’s Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup for the second time in school history, announced by the league office Tuesday evening at its annual awards dinner in Portland, Maine.

Free Shipping on all orders over $99 FootballAmerica.comThe Commissioner’s Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in the America East Conference as determined by a scoring system, which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference’s 20 sports.

"The Commissioner's Cup symbolizes broad-based excellence which is defined by the dedication and commitment of our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” said Vice President of Athletic Administration and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Lee McElroy. “This significant distinction reflects the mission and values of the University."

The Great Danes tied an America East record by winning eight league titles and also captured four regular-season crowns with as many runner-up finishes to help net 390 points -- 90 more than any other school, marking the largest margin of victory since 2002.

Stony Brook came in second place for the second time in four years, earning 300 points, followed by UMBC (246 points) in third, University of New Hampshire (227) in fourth, Binghamton University (220) in fifth, University of Vermont (216) in sixth, University of Hartford (191), University of Maine (169) and Boston University (162).

UAlbany 2012-13 Highlights
• Won second America East Commissioner’s Cup in program history (2004-05).
• Captured conference championships in field hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field and men’s lacrosse.
• Regular-season champions in volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse and softball.
• Runners up in volleyball, women’s tennis and softball.

• Reached championship final in 8-of-11 America East sponsored sports.
• Won both basketball championships in the same year -- just the sixth occurrence in league history.
The scoring system for the Stuart P.
