All Five DIRTcar Northeast Series Running this Weekend
Modifieds and Pro Stocks at Granby, Sportsmans at Ransomville, Merrittville, and Port Colborne; 358-Modifieds on Asphalt at Airborne
WEEDSPORT, N. Y. - September 5, 2012 - The DIRTcar Northeast Series heat up this coming weekend with races throughout the region for all five series.
The Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series,DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, and DIRTcar Pro Stock Series head to Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec. The 358-Modified Series runs Friday, Sept. 7, and the Super DIRTcar Series and Pro Stock Series run Saturday, Sept. 8.
Big-Block Modified driver Matt Sheppard is still running off momentum from Sunday's Super DIRTcar Series win at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park September 2, and the two-time series titlist is looking to make it two in a row at the 11th feature event in the Super DIRTcar Series, the "Dominique Carriers, Group Maska, Performance NC Gros Block '100.'"
"We're going to bring a good race car with us," said Sheppard, who also won the Super DIRTcar Series event at Autodrome Granby in 2011. It's just a place I enjoy racing at. There's usually a big crowd. The fans are great up there. It's just a fun atmosphere.
The fourth DIRTcar Pro Stock Series race, the "Dominique Carriers, Group Maska, Performance NC '50'" also takes on Autodrome Granby Saturday, Sept. 8, and with only one event between then and the championship during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI, the competition is heating up. With track bonus points taking defending champion Joey Ladouceur to the lead over Rob Yetman by a margin of just 20 points, the weekend's race is sure to have a dramatic impact on series standings.
The final series running at Autodrome Granby this weekend is the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Friday, Sept. 7, for the "Dominique Carriers, Group Maska, Performance NC 358-Modified '75.'" Like Sheppard, 358-Modified driver Dale Planck is coming off a stunning victory Sunday, Sept. 2 , that put him in the series point lead. Runner-up Mat Williamson trails by just 38 points.
Autodrome Granby is not the only track to see DIRTcar Northeast Series action this weekend. The DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series, which has only had one race thus far this season, gets rolling with three races over the weekend. Friday, September 7, the series stops at Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, N. Y., Saturday, Sept. 8 at Merrittville Speedway in Merrittville, Ontario, and Sunday, Sept. 9, at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario.
The unique DIRTcar 358-Modified Asphalt Series has its final race of the season Sunday, Sept. 9, at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, N. Y.

Brett Hearn Taking Aim at a Record Sixth Super DIRT Week Crown in 2012
Veteran racer on top of his game heading
into 41st Annual NAPA Auto
Parts Super DIRT Week
WEEDSPORT, N.Y. - Sept. 4, 2012 - Brett
Hearn, five-time winner of the VP Small Engine Fuels 200 and seven-time Super
DIRTcar Series titlist, is looking ahead to Oct. 3-7 for the biggest annual
DIRTcar race of the season, the 41st NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week
at the New York State Fairgrounds.
"Syracuse is a much different race and is a much different animal than anything we ever run," said Hearn on Tuesday afternoon as the first guest on weekly Super DIRT Week calls with media members. "You don't go there to watch a 30-lap sprint, you go there to watch a long race. Now you've got pit strategy and crew members playing into it."
(Click this link to hear Brett Hearn's entire media conference)
Given the nature of the race, Hearn struggles deciding whether to build a car special for the VP Small Engine Fuels 200, a 200-mile Big-Block Modified race Sunday, Oct. 7, or use a car he has been familiar and successful with during the season. Last year, Hearn decided to build a new car and plans to use that car again this year.
"This year we're going back to the same car," said Hearn, who qualified 20th and placed 35th last year. "Hopefully this year we can be a little faster off the trailer and have a little more preferable qualifying position. It seems like if you're not good right off the trailer, you just struggle all week."
Hearn is excited to see the growing sponsorship, with NAPA Auto Parts stepping in as title sponsor and Gander Mountain sponsoring the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Championship Saturday, Oct. 6.
"Anything that makes it bigger than it ever was is a good thing," Hearn said. "There was a time when we didn't know if there was going to be a next year, and it's nice not to worry about that."
Hearn said his two most memorable Super DIRT Weeks were his first win in 1985 and his unexpected victory in 1993.
"The aura of Syracuse was so unique for me," Hearn said. "To win it in '85 was like a dream that come true that came too soon. (In 1993) we were just a car length away from going down a lap. That was the most unbelievable win and the most unexpected win.
"Last year's track at 'the mile' was completely different than any other year. It was absolutely, completely different. There was a lot of passing, the track was four-tenths wider than it usually is, and it was really fun," Hearn said. "I'm hoping they can duplicate what they had there last year because if they can do that, it's going to be a really fun race."
Next week's media call takes place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 11. Media conference calls featuring DIRTcar officials and competitors continue every Tuesday at 3 p.m. Eastern through September 25. Contact Chris Dolack at cdolack@dirtcar.com for more information on how to join Super DIRT Week media calls.
NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI runs from Wednesday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 7, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse with satellite events at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport (Oct. 3) and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge (Oct. 4 and Oct. 6).
The Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar Racing in the Northeast Region is brought to fans by several sponsors and partners including Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Chevy Performance Parts, Gander Mountain, NAPA Auto Parts, Nationwide Insurance, and Safety-Kleen.
