Following a
career-high performance of 14 tackles at Cincinnati, senior safety Shamarko
Thomas has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Against the Bearcats,
Thomas led the Orange defense with 14 tackles, including 10 solo, and forced a
fumble.
Thomas has a team-high 66 tackles so far this
season, including 45 solo, 3.0 for a loss of eight yards and one sack for a loss
of six yards. He has forced three fumbles. Nationally, is tied for 20th in
forced fumbles (0.33 avg/g) and tied for 53rd in solo tackles (5.00 avg/g). He
ranks fourth in forced fumbles (0.33) and 10th in tackles (7.3 avg/g) in the BIG
EAST. Thomas’ 241 career tackles ranks seventh in Syracuse history for tackles
by a defensive back.
This is the second time this season that Thomas
has been named to the conference weekly honor roll. He was honored for the week
of Oct. 22nd after he posted four solo tackles, forced one fumble and
intercepted a pass that he returned for 27 yards in SU's 40-10 win against
Connecticut.
