Hearn, Rudolph, Bernier, Yetman current leaders in Mr. DIRTcar point standings with three weeks to go

For third year, Mr. DIRTcar program supports local racers throughout the Northeast region

WEEDSPORT, N. Y. - Wednesday, August 14, 2013 - As the month of August rolls in, the local racing scene heats up and across the Northeast region many drivers are battling for top spots in point standings. In addition to track and series points, many local dirt track racers have been grappling for points in the Mr. DIRTcar Championship point fund.

In its third year, the Mr. DIRTcar program pits local racers across the Northeast region against one another based on their best 16 finishes in their respective division at any DIRTcar Northeast sanctioned track. With just three weeks left in the competition, the area's best competitors are vying for titles in Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified and Pro Stock divisions.
Big-Block Modified star Brett Hearn is steering his way through another successful season, and with nine wins at four different sanctioned tracks, has the lead so far in Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified points. In the 358-Modified division, Ransomville's own Erick Rudolph has claimed the Mr. DIRTcar point lead with nine wins. Steve Bernier leads in the Sportsman division with eight wins and Rob Yetman in the Pro Stock division with 9 wins.

"The Mr. DIRTcar Championship points recognize those teams that pour their hearts into racing week in and week out, and we're happy to bring it back for a third year," said Joe Skotnicki, DIRTcar Director of Series and Sanctioning. "Bolstering the weekly program at the Northeast's local tracks supports the growth of motorsports across the region, and it gives local competitors the opportunity to compete in points with racers across the region without requiring the travel expense of series competition."

To gain Mr. DIRTcar points, racers must be a DIRTcar Member and compete in Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified, or Pro Stock sanctioned events at a DIRTcar Northeast sanctioned track. Eligible racers are not obligated to travel with any division series to gain top spots in points, since points are calculated based solely on a driver's top 16 finishes at any sanctioned track across the region.

Last year's Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Champion, Brett Hearn, took home $7,500 cash plus $2,500 from VP Racing Fuels. In the 358-Modified division, Dale Planck won $3,000 cash and $1,000 from VP Racing Fuels. Dylan Evoy in the Sportsman Modified division won $1,750 in cash and prizes and Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Champion Chad Jeseo took home a total of $1,500.
