CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO – In the
first outdoor meet of the season, the University at Albany men’s track and field
team captured four event titles Saturday at the 7th Annual Carolina
Spring Break Classic in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Sophomore Alexander Bowen broke a
meet and program record with his 7’ 3” leap in the high jump.
Alfonso Scannapieco placed first in the pole
vault (16’ 2.75”), while Nicolas Santos (1:53.06), Andrew Pirnie (1:53.06), and John DeLallo (1:53.23) swept the top-three
finishes in the 800m. In addition, the 4x400m relay team,
consisting of Taariq Jones, Daryl Subran, Charles Karam, and Alex Petit-Frere, broke the tape with a time of
3:15.35.
Other highlights of the early-season meet
included Scannapieco’s third-place finish in the high jump (6’ 4.73”) and Jones’
third-place performance in the 400m (48.86). Ethan Clary also placed third in the 3,000m run
(8:37.42) followed closely by teammate Chris Buchanan (8:44.48) in fourth
place.
