TROY, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats have announced the second edition of the
Heritage Series Bobblehead Collection, 1994 Albany-Colonie Yankee Mariano
Rivera. The first 1,500 fans through the gates on Capital Region Baseball
Heritage Night, Monday July 22, will receive a Rivera bobblehead.
Rivera
joins last season’s inaugural bobblehead, Derek Jeter, as the first two in the
Heritage Series Collection. The series pays tribute to those who have baseball
roots in New York’s Capital Region. Rivera was a member of the 1994
Albany-Colonie Yankees and started nine games for the club. He then went on to
become a 12-time Major League All-Star, five-time World Series Champion, World
Series MVP and ultimately will be enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of
Fame.
The history of professional baseball in the Capital Region extends
as far back as the late 19th century with the Troy Haymakers (1871-1872) and
Trojans (1882-1889). This rich heritage also includes the Albany Senators
(1885-1959), Schenectady Blue Jays (1951-1957), Albany-Colonie A’s (1983-1984),
Albany-Colonie Yankees (1985-1994) and more.
The Tri-City ValleyCats
are the most recent affiliated professional baseball club, arriving in Troy in
2002. Since that time, the ValleyCats have had 26 players reach Major League
Baseball including notables such as Hunter Pence, Ben Zobrist, Jose Altuve and
Bud Norris.
The only current way to purchase tickets to Heritage Night is
through the ValleyCats six-game Heritage Mini-Plan Package or season tickets.
Individual tickets go on-sale on Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, Monday
April 1 at 10am.
