BOSTON, Mass. – The University at
Albany tennis team continued a five-game roadstand against Boston University on
Thursday, March 28. They were defeated 7-0. The Great Danes will have a quick
turnaround and gear up for a match at Bryant University on Friday, March
29.
In doubles
play, the duo of junior Rocio Lopez and sophomore Kirsten Scott were defeated by junior
Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and senior Jessi Linero, 8-1. It was the two’s
first loss in their last six matches.
The
Great Danes remained competitive in singles play. The match was clinched at the
No. 4 spot when Linero defeated Cheryl Kukkonen in two sets. After dropping the
first set 6-1, the sophomore rebounded to nearly take the second. She was
defeated 7-6. Elsewhere, senior Sarah Iannone picked up a total of six games on
her Terrier opponent, junior Kendal Drake. Lopez dropped to 10-3 on the season
with a loss to freshman Lauren Davis, 6-1, 6-1.With the loss, UAlbany drops to 5-9 (1-1 AE) on the season. Boston U. improved to 7-5 (1-0 AE). The Great Danes have been strong at home, posting a 5-2 record. They are still looking for their first away win. UAlbany’s match against Bryant is slated for 3:00 p.m. They will finish their longest roadstand of the season against UMass on Wednesday, April 3. BU 7, Albany 0 Doubles: 1. Athanasiadis/Linero def.
