PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse senior
defenseman Brian Megill (Clark, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive
Player of the Week, and classmate JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.)
was picked to the conference’s honor roll on Monday, March 11. The pair was
recognized for their performances in the team’s 13-11 win against St. John’s in
the inaugural Whitman’s Sampler Independence Classic Saturday at PPL Park.
Megill was
named the league’s defensive player of the week for the second time in three
weeks. He led the Orange with five ground balls and three caused turnovers
against the Red Storm. In addition, he scored his first goal of the season at
the end of the third quarter to give the Orange a 10-9 lead.
Marasco paced the SU offense with one goal and
four assists on his way to Whitman Sampler Player of the Game honors. Marasco
either scored or assisted on four of the Orange’s first five goals.
Providence’s Sean Wright earned BIG EAST
Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording five points, including four
goals, in the Friars’ 12-10 win over Sacred Heart Saturday.
Tyler Knarr (Georgetown), Joseph Nardella
(Rutgers), Scott Klimchak (Rutgers) and Kieran McArdle (St. John’s) joined
Marasco on this week’s honor roll.
Syracuse
returns to action Saturday, March 16 when it faces archrival Johns Hopkins at 1
p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised live nationally on
ESPNU.
