CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University
at Albany women’s lacrosse team took home two of three weekly America East
Conference awards on Monday, March 18. UAlbany redshirt freshman, Rachel Bowles, was named the conference’s Rookie
of the Week for the third time in five weeks. Junior Kathleen Lennon took home Defensive Player of the
Week honors.
Bowles (Cicero, N.Y.) led the Great Danes
with 12 goals in a 2-1 week for UAlbany. She has scored in all seven games this
season, scoring three goals against Manhattan, a career-best five against George
Mason and four in a loss at Cornell. Six of her first seven games have been
multi-goal performances. She leads the Great Danes with 21 goals and had a .571
shooting percentage on the week.
Lennon (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) earned the
Defensive Player of the Week honor after recording 23 draw controls over three
games for UAlbany. Lennon tied a career-high with 12 draw controls against
George Mason. Against Mahattan, the midfielder had eight ground balls, five draw
controls and a career-best seven caused turnovers. She leads the conference with
51 draw controls this season.
The Great Danes continue the 2013 season at
home against Fresno State on Thursday, March 21 at John Fallon Field. The first
draw control will be slated for 3:00 p.m.
