Three Victories Earn Rocio Lopez America East Player of the Week Honors

The junior won three matches over the last week and currently is off to a team-best 7-1 start in singles competition.


Lopez, a native of Madrid, Spain, earned a 6-4, 3-6, (10-4) win against undefeated Cornell at the No. 1 singles position. Her victory was the only one for the Great Danes last Saturday. Against Rhode Island on Sunday, Lopez was again victorious from the No. 1 singles position. The Georgia Tech transfer also won with teammate Kirsten Scott, 8-2, in doubles play against the Rams. Since joining UAlbany midway through last season, Lopez is 19-6 in singles play. She was named to the America East First-Team last season.

Next up for UAlbany is a home doubleheader. First, the Great Danes take on crosstown rival Siena at Sportime. Match time is set for 9 a.m. Following, UAlbany open’s up conference play against Hartford at Tri-City Fitness in Latham, N.Y. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
