Fans to vote on bobblehead through Bracket
Buster Tournament benefiting charity
TROY, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats have announced their promotional schedule for the 2013 season and it is highlighted by the revival of the Media Bobblehead Bracket Buster Tournament. Beginning Thursday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m., fans will vote on which member of the local media they would like to see immortalized into a ValleyCats bobblehead to be given away to the first 1,500 fans through the gates at "The Joe" on Monday, August 19.
The contest features 16 prominent personalities of local television, radio and print media. Each has chosen a charity they will represent throughout the tournament. The winning personality's charity will receive a $1,500 cash donation and partial game sponsorship of the bobblehead giveaway night. Second place will receive a $1,000 donation and third place $500. All charities involved will receive exposure on tcvalleycats.com and recognition at "The Joe."
The 16 participants include television personalities Benita Zahn (Ronald McDonald House), Rodger Wyland (Tim Morrison Foundation) and Bob Kovachick (Make-A-Wish Foundation) from News Channel 13; Greg Floyd (Hannah's Hope Fund), Doug Sherman (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and Steve LaPointe (Double H Ranch) from CBS 6, Mike Bono (The Humane Society of the United States) and Marisa Jacques (Wounded Warrior Project) from YNN, and Drew Brill (National Dance Institute) from News 10.
Representing radio is The Sean & Richie Show (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) from 107.7 WGNA, Quinn & Cantara (Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York) from PYX 106, Chuck & Kelly (WGY Christmas Wish) from 810 WGY, and Bruce Jacobs (Special Olympics New York) from 104.5 The Team.
Representing the print media are sports writers Tim Wilkin (American Cancer Society) from the Times Union, Ken Schott (American Red Cross) from The Daily Gazette and Ed Weaver (American Heart Association) from The Troy Record.
There will be a short preliminary round of voting from Thursday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday, March 10 at 9:00 p.m. to determine the bracket seeding for the tournament. The Round of 16 will begin on Monday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. and will be open for voting through Sunday, March 17 at 9:00 p.m.. Three more rounds of voting will follow, each lasting one week, until a champion is announced on Monday, April 8.
Voting will take place online at www.tcvalleycats.com/bobblevote, and is limited to one vote per person, per day. Information on the participants and their charity, along with the complete tournament schedule is also listed on that page.
Each of the ‘Cats 38 home games feature a unique theme including special awareness nights, 14 extravagant fireworks shows, two bobblehead giveaways and more.
