Fanning Shatters 1500m Program Record At UConn Invite

Carnal Dammage, Your MMA HeadquartersSTORRS, Conn. – With a time of 4:22.83, junior Kathryn Fanning shattered the program’s 1500m record at the UConn Invite Saturday, leading the University at Albany women’s track and field team. While breaking a record that stood since 2006 (Jenna Ortman: 4:28.12), Fanning’s outstanding mark ranks15th in the NCAA East Region and should qualify her for the NCAA Regionals in May.

Other highlights of the meet included senior Alli Rogers’ (24.66) ECAC qualifying time of 24.66 in the 200m dash, good for second. Junior Jillian Haynes also had a near-top finish, placing third, running a 12.18 in the 100m dash.

Tynelle Taylor-Chase won the 400m title with a 1:02.99 mark, while also finishing in fourth in the 100m hurdles, sprinting a 14.39 mark.

In the field events, freshman Solene Bastien (18’ 0.5”) and sophomore Aiyanna James (18”) captured the top two finishes in the long jump in the 11-athlete field. Janice Johnson earned a second place finish in the shot put with her 42’ 4.75” toss.

Also in the field events, Valeisha Walker (125’ 10”) and Katie Dowd (122’ 5”) placed first and second, respectively, in the javelin throw. Walker also finished in fourth in the discus (118’ 5”), while Lauren Lopano took third (129’ 9”).

High jump juniors Rochelle Reid and Ashley Grant tied for fourth, both leaping 5’ 7.25”.
The Great Danes return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Upstate Track and Field Classic at RPI.
