CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The
University at Albany softball team took home two America East Weekly Awards on
Monday, April 1, after sweeping Hartford in a three-game series last weekend.
Junior pitcher Brittany MacFawn was named
conference Pitcher of the Week while freshman Kelly Costello earned
Rookie of the Week honors.
MacFawn
(Orlando, Fla.) was nearly perfect on the mound last week. The righthander won
both her starts, allowing just a single hit and one earned run in two complete
games. She threw the fifth no-hitter of her career, striking out 10 and walking
zero in a 1-0 win over the Hawks on Friday. MacFawn followed with a one-hitter,
fanning nine in a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Costello (Windosr, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with
a walk in three games. The outfielder got a hit in her only official at-bat in
the first win over Hartford on Friday. Her sixth inning RBI proved to bring home
the winning run in a 1-0 victory. She then went 2-for-3, with a solo homer, and
drove-in three in Friday’s nightcap, a 9-4 Great Danes’ win. This is her first
Rookie of the Week selection.
UAlbany will
look to build on their 10-game win streak on Wednesday, April 3. They host
crosstown rival Siena College in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:30
p.m. at Albany Field.
