PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse junior
Matt Harris (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player
of the Week, and senior JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was picked
to the conference’s weekly honor roll on Monday, April 22.
Harris registered four ground balls and four
caused turnovers in the Orange’s 9-8 win at Georgetown on April 20. He helped
anchor an SU defense that allowed just one Hoya goal during a 37:05 stretch that
encompassed most of the second half. In addition, Harris collected two ground
balls versus Hobart on April 16 and led an Orange unit that did not give up a
goal to any of Hobart’s three starting midfielders.
Marasco tallied three goals and three assists in
the two games. He leads the Orange in points (46) and assists (30). Marasco is
tied with Brad Kotz (1984) for the second-most assists by a Syracuse midfielder
in one season. Paul Gait holds the record with 34 in 1990.
Notre Dame attackman John Scioscia was named the
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after recording four goals and one assist
in a 13-9 win against Villanova Saturday.
Sean Wright (Providence), Colin Keegan (St.
John’s), John LoCascio (Villanova) and Jack Rice (Villanova) joined Marasco on
this week’s honor roll.
Syracuse
concludes the regular season Saturday, April 27 against Notre Dame in the 2013
Konica Minolta Big City Classic at MetLife Stadium. Faceoff is slated for 6:30
p.m. on ESPNU.
