ALBANY, N.Y. -The University at Albany landed a No. 15 seed in the Midwest Region and has been selected to play Duke in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Philadelphia. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on CBS on Friday, March 22. CBS talent includes Kevin Harlan with the play-by-play, Len Elmore and Reggie Miller as the color analysts.
This is the second time that both teams have faced off, having previously played one another on December 17, 2007 at Cameron Indoors. The Blue Devils got the better of the Great Danes, defeating them 111-70 and were led by DeMarcus Nelson's 23-point performance. UAlbany's Tim Ambrose led the charge, in the loss, with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
Overall, UAlbany will enter the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history, having been in the tournament in 2006 as a 16 seed and in 2007 as a 13 seed. The Great Danes battled UConn in 2006 in Columbus, Ohio down-to-the wire, but eventually fell 72-59 in Philadelphia, Pa. Then in 2007, UAlbany came across Virginia in Columbus, Ohio and lost 84-57 on March 16, 2007.
UAlbany became the lowest seed (4) in the America East Conference Tournament to win the championship. The Great Danes became the fifth team in conference history to win the title on the road in 30 games. The 24 wins are the most wins in a single season in program history for UAlbany.
