Men’s Track And Field Boasts Eight Event Victors At UCF Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University at Albany men’s track and field team boasted eight event winners, and five IC4A qualifiers Friday and Saturday at the UCF Invitational at the University of Central Florida.

Field athletes Alfonso Scannapieco and Alexander Bowen were victorious in their events, as Scannapieco recorded a pole vault mark of 17’ 3.75”, ranking fourth in the NCAA Division I, while Bowen cleared 6’ 11” in the high jump.

Senior Ethan Clary captured the 3,000m steeplechase title with an IC4A qualifying time of 9:13.67, while sophomore Christopher Buchanan won his event in the 5,000m run, recording a 15:25.44 time.

Freshman Taariq Jones also ran well, placing first in the 200m dash with a time of 21.85, and juniors Youness Benzaid (1:53.93) and Daryl Subran (154.28) captured the first two finishes, respectively, in the 800m.

Both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams recorded a winning and IC4A qualifying times. Donald Williams Jr., Kareem Morris, Charles Karam, and Winston McCormack Jr. ran the 4x100m legs in 41.15, while Jones, Alex Petit-Frere, Subran, and Scannapieco finished the 4x400m in 3:15.65.

In addition, junior Kareem Morris placed third in the 100m dash, running an IC4A qualifying time of 10.79.

Other highlights included Petit-Frere’s third-place finish in the 400m dash, running a 48.05. Andrew Pirnie also ran a team-best 4:00.15 in the 1500m run, good for fourth place.

Up next, UAlbany will compete in the Stanford Invitational, April 5-6, as well as “The Dog Fight” at UConn on the 6th.
