ORANGE LACROSSE MAKES FIRST TRIP TO PROVIDENCE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- No. 4 Syracuse (4-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) returns to BIG EAST play Tuesday, March 19 when the Orange makes its first-ever visit to Providence (5-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) to take on the upstart Friars at 7 p.m. The matchup represents SU's first true road game of the 2013 campaign.

Syracuse has won four straight since losing its season opener to Albany, including a 13-8 victory over archrival Johns Hopkins in its last outing. Providence started the season with five straight victories before dropping its BIG EAST opener to Georgetown, 16-8, on Saturday.

Admission is free of charge at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. Fans can hear the action live on the radio home of the Orange - TK 99 (99.5 FM) in Syracuse. Live streaming audio is available on SUathletics.com as part of Orange All-Access.

ORANGE STREAKING
Syracuse is currently riding a four-game winning streak, the team's longest since it won six games in a row during the second half of the 2011 campaign. The Orange has allowed double-digit goals just once during the streak (11 vs. St. John's on March 9), and the stretch includes top-10 wins over powerhouses Virginia and Johns Hopkins.

FAMILIAR FACE
Former Syracuse All-American goalie John Galloway is an assistant lacrosse coach at Providence under first-year head man Chris Gabrielli. Galloway and Gabrielli previously worked together at Duke.

Galloway played for the Orange from 2008-11 and helped the team win consecutive national titles in 2008 and 2009. A two-time first-team All-American, Galloway won the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award as the nation's best goalie twice (2010, 2011) and graduated as the NCAA all-time leader in wins (59) and minutes played (3,776).

MARASCO SIXTH NATIONALLY IN ASSISTS PER GAME
Senior JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) ranks second in the BIG EAST and sixth nationally in assists per game (2.6). Among midfielders, Marasco's 2.6 helpers per contest are second in the NCAA to Bucknell's David Dickson (3.1). Marasco has at least three assists in three different games so far this season, including five in the opener against Albany on Feb. 17.

LOY FINDING HIS RANGE
Junior midfielder Scott Loy (Toledo, Ohio) closed the 2012 season with four goals in SU's last three games. He's continued that success in 2013. Loy is tied for the team lead with seven goals this season and he registered his first career hat trick to help the Orange defeat Johns Hopkins, 13-8, on March 16. Loy's seven goals through five games is already one more than he had in 15 games last year.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence is one of the surprise teams in college lacrosse at 5-1 and they are unbeaten at home (3-0). The Friars' five victories already equal the number of wins for the team in 2011 and 2012 combined. First-year coach Chris Gabrielli is the man authoring the turnaround. Gabrielli, a former Duke assistant, replaced Chris Burdick as head coach in June and immediately installed a much more up-tempo style.

The Friars are averaging 12.5 goals per contest (8th in the NCAA) behind the play of attackman Sean Wright, who leads the team in scoring with 25 points (19 goals, six assists), and midfielder Andrew Barton (24 points, 13 goals, 11 assists). Attackman JT Weber also has scoring punch with 11 goals and seven assists on the year.

Ryan Shaw is one of the top faceoff specialists in the BIG EAST. He has won 56 percent of his draws (75-134) and he leads Providence with 48 ground balls.

Graduate student Mike Noyes is the club's most experienced defender (17 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers). Goalie Jack Connelly has 63 saves and a .525 save percentage. Connelly has started all six games in the cage.

THE SERIES WITH PROVIDENCE
SU is 4-0 all-time against the Friars. The Orange has outscored Providence 59-17 in the four games and owns an average margin of victory of +10.5 in the series. Three meetings have taken place in the Carrier Dome. In 2011, the Orange beat the Friars, 13-3, at Gillette Stadium as part of the New England Lacrosse Classic.

UP NEXT ...
The Orange continues its conference road swing with a visit to Villanova on Saturday, March 23. Faceoff between the Orange and Wildcats is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
