Binghamton Drops Lopsided Rubber Match, 16-3

BINGHAMTON, NY – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats pounded out 18 hits, including four home runs, to hand the Binghamton Mets a 16-3 loss at NYSEG Stadium on Thursday night.

The Fisher Cats ripped nine hits for extra bases. New Hampshire wasted no time to jump on the scoreboard against B-Mets starter Greg Peavey. Ryan Goins laced a single up the middle and Mike McDade dribbled an infield single to third to set the table for Brad Glenn. The right fielder launched the first pitch he saw from Peavey off the videoboard in right for a three-run homer. After AJ Jimenez singled to right, John Tolisano shot a single up the middle. The ball bounced past Matt den Dekker in centerfield and rolled to the fence, allowing both runners to score. The error was den Dekker’s second of the season.

Den Dekker made amends for the error quickly in the first inning. He ripped the third pitch of the game by starter Yohan Pino over the right centerfield fence for his third homer the season. It was his second in as many games. After plating a run in the second, the Fisher Cats ramped up the offense in the third. New Hampshire pounded Peavey for five more runs on five hits, highlighted by a three-run home run by Mark Sobolewski. Ryan Goins’ two-run double ended Peavey’s night.

Edgar Ramirez put out the flames by retiring two straight to end the inning. Mark Sobolewski continued his special night in the fourth when he took Ramirez deep for another three-run homer. AJ Jimenez added a solo dinger in the sixth. Pino allowed two runs in the sixth, his final inning of work. Rodriguez started with a single and scored on Jefry Marte’s double. Rafael Fernandez collected his first Double-A RBI with a sac fly later in the frame. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over six innings to earn his first win. Aaron Loup added two scoreless innings of relief for New Hampshire and Ronald Uviedo worked a perfect ninth to lock down the win.

The B-Mets (10-9) hit the road for a seven-game swing that will bring them to Erie, Pennsylvania and Akron, Ohio. Binghamton starts a three game series tomorrow night at 6:35 PM against the SeaWolves. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound for the B-Mets against LHP Kelvin De La Cruz. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
