Hearn Dominates To Go 3 for 3!

West Lebanon, NY:  It’s been quite some time in Lebanon Valley Speedway’s history to see a driver and team dominate in one class like we seen these past 3 weeks at the mighty high banks.  Brett Hearn has come with his ‘A’ game in 2012 in the Big Block Modifieds to cement himself at the top of the leaderboard early in the season.

Contractor Sales rolled out the red carpet this past chilly Saturday Night at the Valley of Speed for the 30 lap Big Block Modified feature event.  At the front of the field early was the #55 of Mike Keeler with the veteran driver Denny Soltis in his #0.

The green flag flew and the #55 of Keeler took control early and pulled a comfortable lead on the rest of the field.  But the caution flew just as lap 1 completed as Wayne Jelley lost the handle on his #45J in turn 4 while running 3rd and collected up 11 racecars, blocking the speedway, and causing a red flag while the track was cleared.

Once the track was cleared, the caution returned and damage was pretty severe for several cars.  Most would return with some damage including Kenny Tremont Jr, Donnie Corellis, Brett Hearn, JR Heffner, and Jelley as well.

The field was reset, and restarted with Keeler still in control.  But the #98S of Kolby Schroder tried to get the jump on Keeler twice, but that only got him a trip to the rear of the field for back to back jumping the restart.

Once that was straightened out, the green flew again with the #55 out front followed by Paul Gilardi and Brian Berger.  But all eyes were on the back of the field and Tremont, Hearn, Corellis and Heffner were charging through the field to get back to the front.

Tremont’s #115 lost the handle early and began to fade from contention, while Corellis, Hearn and Heffner still were moving forward.  But Hearn was making it clear that the #20H was still in top performing condition and made easy work of the field reaching the top 5 by the halfway mark.

Kyle Sheldon made a bid for the top spot as the laps began to wind down on the Kokosa Oil Lap Counter, but it was Hearn that charged to the first, and passed both Sheldon and then Keeler to take the lead, and the win with just 5 laps remaining.

As the checkers flew, the #20H took his 3rd win of the year followed by Sheldon’s #42.  Eddie Marshal battled to finish 3rd, followed by Heffner and Keeler to round out the top 5.

In the Budget Sportsman Feature of 33 cars, Chris George brought the field to green and had the early lead until Chris Lynch’s #74 charged to the top spot by lap 5.  Lynch held the lead until 4th generation driver Bobby Hackel IV took over the top spot on lap 8 from Lynch and never looked back.

Even a couple of late race cautions could deny the #97 from victory lane.  Lynch crossed the line for 2nd followed by Tim Hartman Jr, Tommy Johnson, and Jake Jelley to round out the top 5.

The LV Sportsman saw the #83 of Chad Pierce out front early in the 2 lap affair, but a hard charging Steve Meilleur took over the top spot by lap 15 and stole the show.  Pierce had to settle for 2nd, with Frank Harper finishing 3rd.  Kim Herrick and Brett Haas completed the top 5 at the checker.

The Pro Stocks put another full fendered frenzy for their 20 lap feature event that had the #17 of Nick Hilt out front at the early part of the event.  With 2 and 3 wide racing for much of the event, the veteran racer Robbie Speed powered his way to the top spot before halfway, and pulled away from the field.

At the checkers, Speed took the win with a hard charging Jay Corbin having to finish 2nd.  Nick Hilt had to settle for 3rd while Jason Casey and Victor Hopkins completed the top 5 finishers.

At the opening of the night’s action, the Purestocks completed their feature events with PS#1 won by Lloyd Tomlin, John Devine held on the win PS#2, and John Filarecki took PS#3.

Next Saturday night it’s Boomer’s Performance and Funplex Funpark Night with Kids Giveaways and the special 20 Lap Boomer’s Purestock Clash!  All weekly divisions will be on hand including the 4 cylinders!
