Softball Sweeps America East Conference Weekly Awards

Cambridge, Mass.- UAlbany softball's 5-0 record this past week garnered America East Conference Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week awards, which were voted on by the conference office. First baseman Charlise Castro was honored with A-East Player of the Week, Brittany MacFawn was voted A-East Pitcher of the Week and center fielder Vicky McFarland was recognized as the A-East Rookie of the Week for the week of April 16-22.

Castro, a Saugerties, N.Y. native, continued her success at the plate, batting .750 (8-for-12) with a home run, two doubles and 10 runs batted in. She is currently leading or tied for the lead in almost every offensive statistical category in the America East Conference. She leads in home runs (12), RBIs (46), Runs (36) and batting average (.482) and is tied for the lead in hits (54) and doubles (12).

MacFawn, garnering her second nod as Pitcher of the Week, went 3-0 and gave up just two runs on three hits in 19 innings pitched this past week. She is currently 16-4 on the season boasting the conference's third best ERA (1.59) and the second best strikeout total (157).

Vicky McFarland, winning her first A-East Rookie of the Week, had an outstanding week at the lead-off spot, homering three times in five games to bump her total to four on the season. All four of her home runs this season have come at home and has tallied them in a six-game span. She is currently fourth on the team in batting average (.323) and second with stolen bases (23).

UAlbany looks to continue its success with its final two home games against Bryant, in a non-conference doubleheader, on Thursday, April 26 at Albany Field. First pitch is set to go at 3 pm.
