Will Fiacchi went 9-11 with three touchdowns to lead the offense at the second spring scrimmage for the UAlbany football team on Saturday morning at University Field. The Greayt Danes, who held their first intrasquad scrimmage last weekend, will wrap up the spring season with the annual Spring Game next saturdat at 3 p.m.
Fiacchi threw for 103 yards, with a long of 29 yards at the quarterback spot. On the receiving end of the offense, Jameel Gay caught two passes for 41 yards including the longest reception of the day, as he was on the other end of Fiacchi's 29-yard pass. Tailback Omar Osbourne rushed for 14 total yards, including a four-yard touchdown run, while Karl Allison had the longest run of the day with an 11-yard rush.
Wide receiver Kevin Chillis posted a long catch of 23 yards, while Rhakeem Wiggings had a 20-yard touchdown reception. Tight end Matt Goss also caught two passes, including a four-yard catch for a tocuhdown. Punter Paul Layton kicked for 68 total yards, including a long of 43. Kicker Sean Kenney converted two good field goals, and also had the longestpunt of the day, a 47-yardattempt.
On defense,Dean Mercuris and Zach Mortin led all players with five tackles, while Mercuris also recorded two sacks. Randall Exantus finished with four tackles and a blocked field goal. Cornerback Clay Harris finished with one tackle and also recorded a forced fumble.
"I think we made more mistakes today whan we did in the first scrimmage," said UAlbany head coach Bob Ford. "We had less consistency. Too many sacks, dropped too many balls. Our biggest question mark is quarterback, and who is going to step in for Dan DiLella. we also need to make up spots in the defensive line. But we were solid in the punting and kicking game. It wasn't a great progress, but thank goodness it's spring football."
