STARKVILLE, Miss.- UAlbany
softball first baseman Charlise Castro was named to the 2012 National Fastpitch
Coaches Association District I Northeast First Team. Castro was named the 2012
America East Conference Player of the Year and finished out the season as the
second player in conference history to win the Triple Crown.
Castro, a sophomore transfer from Maryland Eastern Shore, etched her name early in the UAlbany and America East record books with just one year under her belt. She was a three-time America East Player of the Week and led the conference in the Triple Crown categories, home runs (13), RBIs (53) and batting average (.461). The sophomore first baseman became UAlbany's single-season leader in RBIs and second in batting average, home runs and doubles (13). A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration. 2012 NFCA District I Northeast All-Region Team
