The sophomore first baseman's batting average is fourth best in the nation.
McFarland, a Staten Island, N.Y. native, is having a stellar rookie campaign. The lead-off batter is hitting .310 with six home runs and 24 RBIs. Her .399 on-base percentage and 23 stolen bases are second-best on the team. The freshman centerfielder was honored as America East Rookie of the Week for the week of April 16-22.
Both Castro and McFarland were joined on the America East All-Conference First Team by sophomore pitcher Brittany MacFawn. This is MacFawn's second time in as many years appearing on the first team.
Senior outfielder Diane MacDowell was named to the All-Conference Second Team with her conference-leading 26 stolen bases, which landed her fourth all-time at UAlbany with 64 career stolen bases.
Joining McFarland on the All-Conference Rookie Team was freshman shortstop Alexa Toole. Toole is second on the team in batting average (.349), third in RBIs (30) and home runs (6).
The Great Danes will prepare to play in a double-elimination America East Conference Championship, which is held at the BU Softball Field. UAlbany will begin the tournament against the No. 2 seed Stony Brook on Thursday, May 10 at 3:30 pm.
