Softball Drops First Game Of America East Tounament To Stony Brook, 6-4

Boston, Mass.- UAlbany softball dropped its first game of the America East Conference Tournament to Stony Brook, 6-4, on Friday, May 11 at BU Softball Field.

The Great Danes will face Maine in an elimination game on Saturday, May 12 at 1:30 pm. UAlbany (34-13) got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first, 2-0. Stony Brook's pitcher Allison Cukrov would walk four of the first five batters. Both Charlise Castro and Kylie Apostolina would draw RBI-walks. Seawolf shortstop Lauren Maloney cut the deficit to one, 2-1, with a solo home run to left field.

The Great Danes drew three more walks in the top of the third and was followed with an Alexa Toole sacrifice fly to right to go up 3-1. Stony Brook (37-15-1) would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, 4-3, to grab its first lead of the game. Nicole Hagerty and and Jessica Combs would each record solo home runs. Then a throwing error by Danes third baseman Lauren Alcorn allowed the inning to continue and Lauren Kamachi grounded out to third but drove in the go-ahead run.

UAlbany would tie the game up in the top of the fifth with a lead-off walk by Castro and an RBI-single from Alcorn. Stony Brook's Hagerty hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, which was her second of the game and game-winning RBIs to keep the Seawolves in the winner's bracket. Brittany MacFawn (18-6) fell victim to the long ball, allowing four home runs in six innings. MacFawn gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and struck out two.

Allison Cukrov (25-8), the America East Conference Pitcher of the Year, pitched seven innings of four-run ball. Cukrov gave up a season-worst 11 walks and struck out five.
