Former Syracuse football student-athletes
Torrey Ball and Kevyn Scott are two of 721 players who were named
to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor
Society on Wednesday. The honor society consists of college football players
from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade point average
throughout their college career.
Qualifications for
membership into the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include being a starter or a significant
substitute in one's last year of eligibility, achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point
average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and meeting all
NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements and graduation.
Ball
(Athens, Ga.) played in all 12 games for the Orange this season, including six
starts. He finished the season with 31 tackles, along with three tackles for a
loss and one fumble recovery. Ball earned a degree in communication and
rhetorical studies and is pursuing a Master's degree in media management. He is
a three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and five-time selection to
the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Scott, who is a graduate student enrolled
in the information management program and earned his undergraduate degree in
information management and technology in May 2011, is the 11th SU football
student-athlete to be named to the team in each of his four years at Syracuse. A
four-year letterwinner, Scott, a starting cornerback for the Orange, earned 2011
CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America honors for his achievements in the
classroom and on the field. He attended the 2009 University Presidential
Inaugural Conference (UPIC), including the inauguration of President Barack
Obama, in Washington, D.C., as a member of the National Honor Society. A 2008-09
Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars First Team selection, Scott is a seven-time SU
Athletic Director’s Honor Roll designee.
Ball and Scott are the 11th and 12th
Syracuse representatives in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society. Previous Orange
members are: Ryan Bartholomew and Derrell Smith in 2011, James McKenzie, Roberto
Nieves and Andrew Robinson in 2010, Ryan Durand, Jake Flaherty, Ryan Howard and
Benjamin Maljovec in 2009 and Dowayne Davis in 2008.
