Softball Comes Up Short Against Boston U., 5-0, In America East Championship Game

Boston, Mass.- UAlbany softball fights its way through the elimination bracket but falls short to Boston U., 5-0, in the America East Conference Championship game on Sunday, May 13 at BU Softball Field. The Great Danes finish with 30-plus wins for the 11th time in its Division I history (36-14).

Brittany Schwieger (14-6) looked to carry her success over from the game against Stony Brook, as she went up against Boston U.'s Holli Floetker.

Boston U. (40-15) got on the board first in the bottom of the second with two runs, 2-0. After Brittany Clendenny led off with a single, Chelsea O'Connor reached on a fielder's choice, Mandy Fernandez drew a walk and then teammate Amy Ekart roped a two-run double.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Terriers would add on three more runs to extend their lead to five, 5-0. Boston U. would have its first three hitters reach on a single and Clendenny would have the RBI-single. O'Connor would record a sacrifice fly and Emily Roesch finished the three-run inning with an RBI-single through the middle.
UAlbany (36-14) struggled to get runners on, having recorded just three hits and two walks. The Great Danes only scoring opportunity came in the top of the first with Diane MacDowell stranded at third.

Schwieger was dealt with the loss her sixth loss of the season, pitching four and one-third innings with five runs on eight hits and striking out five. Floetker pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up just three hits and two walks in her 19th win of the season.
