FUTURE ORANGE TAKE THE FIELD JUNE 10

Four future members of the Orange football team will take the field in the Carrier Dome on June 10 for the third annual New York State High School Football Classic. Defensive back Wayne Morgan, offensive lineman Omari Palmer and Devante McFarlane will suit up for the Downstate Team, while offensive lineman Ben Barrett will play for the Upstate Team. Both teams will arrive on campus on June 6 for a series of eight practices before the 2:00 p.m. kickoff on June 10 in the Dome.


Morgan, who was ranked the No. 11 safety nationally by ESPN, was also rated the fourth-best player in New York by Super Prep. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native competed in the 2011 Semper-Fidelis All-American Bowl last season, and was named to the New York Post All-City First Team and All-Brooklyn Team. With 45 tackles, one interception, two fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns, Morgan helped Erasmus Hall to a 9-3 record and the PSAL Championship. An all-around player, he also completed 45 passes for 763 yards and four touchdowns in addition to rushing for 600 yards and six touchdowns.


Palmer (Coram, N.Y.) was a 2011 New York State Class AA First Team honoree, and helped the Longwood Lions to an 8-2 record. He earned All-Metro, All-Long Island, All-County and All-League honors in 2011.


McFarlane was a PrepStar All-East Region selection in 2011, as well as a New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA Third Team honoree. During his senior season, the Wheatley Heights, N.Y. native carried the ball 70 times for 754 yards and 12 touchdowns in addition to 11 receptions for 221 yards. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the May 2012 Nike Combine at Penn State.


Barrett (Manlius, N.Y.) played offensive tackle and defensive end for Christian Brothers Academy in 2011, helping the offense average 180.9 rushing yards per game. He led CBA to an 8-2 record and the Section III Class AA championship game last season, and was named a New York State Class AA First Team, Section III All-Star and All-CNY First Team as well as a PrepStar All-East Region selection.
