Coming off a season which saw him block for
a 1,000-yard rusher for the second straight year, junior center Macky
MacPherson is one of 50 players named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch
List. The award is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA
Division I-A College Football.
MacPherson is one
of only four BIG EAST centers included on the list, and was also named to
Phil Steele's 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team two weeks
ago.
Currently in its
13th season, the award is named after Dave Rimington, who was a consensus
first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982,
during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the
nation's finest college interior lineman.
The Rimington
Trophy committee uses four teams to determine a winner: the American Football
Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers
Association of America. The winner will be honored at Rimington Trophy
Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 12,
2013.
