Championships to be Played At Gillette Stadium May
26-28
The NCAA has
announced the teams that will participate in the 2012 Division I, Division II
and Division III men's lacrosse championships. In all, 11 New England teams
qualified or were selected to compete in the three tournaments.
All three
championships will be played May 26-28 at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough,
Mass.
The first-round of
the 16-team Division I tournament will be played this Saturday and Sunday with
the winning teams advancing to the quarterfinals May 19 and 20. The Division I
semifinal (Saturday, May 26) and championship (Monday, May 28) games will be
played at Gillette Stadium. The University of Massachusetts (Colonial Athletic
Association) and Yale (Ivy League) won their conference tournaments to
automatically qualify and are the two New England teams in the Division I
tournament.
The four-team
Division II tournament semifinals will be played May 19 with the winners
advancing to play Sunday, May 27 in Foxborough at 1 p.m.
The 24-team
Division III tournament begins Wednesday with the championship at Gillette
Stadium on Sunday, May 27 at 4 p.m. Nine New England schools
either won their conference championships or were selected to participate in the
championship: Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Eastern Connecticut State (Little
East Conference), Mount Ida (Great Northeast Athletic Conference), New England
College (North Atlantic Conference), Springfield (Pilgrim League), Trinity,
Tufts (New England Small College Athletic Conference) and Western New England
(Commonwealth Coast Conference).

Gillette Stadium previously served as the
venue for the NCAA championships in 2008 and 2009. Record crowds attended the
2008 Division I championship (48,970) and Division II and III championship games
(24,072).
