Men’s Lacrosse Awarded With Three All-Conference Selections

Cambridge, Mass.—The America East conference announced its annual all-conference teams Tuesday afternoon as voted by the coaches. Binghamton was well represented amongst the teams, nabbing two first-team picks, a second-team pick and an all-rookie selection. The Bearcats were also noticed for their hard work in the classroom as a pair of seniors were honored with the All-Academic Team nod.

For the second consecutive season, senior LSM Ben Waldron was chosen as a first-team all-conference selection. The senior captain had a stellar senior campaign leading the team in both ground balls (51) and caused turnovers (31). His 2.38 caused per game ranked fifth nationally as he finished up his tremendous four-year career with a program record 81 caused turnovers. The senior defender also made an impact offensively this season contributing seven points (4 G, 3A).
Fresh off a 2011 season where he earned all-rookie honors, sophomore Michael Antinozzi made quite an impression in 2012, joining Waldron on the first-team. Antinozzi had a historic sophomore campaign, scoring a program record 32 goals, which bested current teammate Matt Springer’s totals in both 2010-11 by three tallies. With an outstanding six-point performance against UMBC in the team’s finale this past Saturday, Antinozzi also passed Matt McNamara for the most points recorded in a season with 46. The Fallston, Maryland native recorded seven hat tricks this season, including six straight to begin the year. He finished the season in the top-20 nationally in both goals and points per game.

Fellow sophomore Greg Cove was also honored by the conference Tuesday with a second-team selection. Cove started all 13 games this season on defense, accumulating 12 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls. The tough defender also spent some time at the face-off circle where he won 9-of-18 attempts this season. Cove, who like Antinozzi, was also an all-rookie selection a year ago and has started 24 of 28 games in a Bearcat uniform.

In his first season, freshman J.T. Hauck lived up to the all the hype he had entering Binghamton as a high school all-american. The crafty midfielder had an outstanding all-around season recording 15 goals and 14 assists, making nine starts for BU. His 29 points are the third-highest total for a freshman at Binghamton. Hauck finished out the season strong, winning back-to-back conference Rookie of the Week honors, most recently for his three goal performance in the 15-8 win over then conference-leading UMBC.

A pair of seniors and team captains round up the end-of-season awards for Binghamton. Seniors Jeff Donigan and Ryan Button were honored for their excellent play on the field and performance off the field in the classroom. Button, a senior from nearby Auburn, NY, makes the team for the first time thanks to an impressive 3.79 GPA in accounting. On the back line, Button started all but one game in 2012 causing 15 turnovers, which was second-best on the team. Donigan also was influential in 2012 winning 99-of-207 (.478) face-off attempts. Like Button, he too was a standout in the classroom earning a 3.63 GPA as a double major in math and financial economics.
